What is or who were Bilchrome?

The casting of my 1958 Triumph TR3A engine block bears the word, "Bilchrome". Does anyone know the origin of this word/name? Not much from a Google search. Hoping that someone in England, near Coventry might have some information.

Bilchrome were, originally a cutlery manufacturer in Sheffield. When cheap foreign imports began to affect their business, 1960's-70's they began producing castings for the motor industry. Triumph is a known customer as were Massey Ferguson.

Sheffield Archives could well hold some historical material about the company.

The companies house database seems to be either down or very slow right now... grrrrrrrr

When I get a minute I will see what I can find about them.

Many thanks for your reply. The engine must have been assembled sometime in 1959 because the car was commissioned in Sept of the same year. Very Happy

J Billam Ltd were a cutlery manufacturer, known for their chrome products. They expanded into various forms of manufacturing. It looks as if the company is now Billams PLC who have connections, among other things, with the motor trade.

I have traced one ex-worker at Billams, about 1969. If I am fortunate enough to receive a reply I will post again.

I have not been able to find any reference to the "bilchrome" tradename.
