I went away for the weekend at the Bedfordshire Steam Rally. While I was there, later on the Sunday afternoon, Paula my wife rang me to tell me that our Springer Spaniel, Ruby had just given birth to her first pup of her second litter. She wasn't due to have them till the 24th September, so she was well early with this litter. Needless to say, I packed up and hooked up the caravan and came home. She’d already had three pups, but I was home now to watch the rest being born. I stayed up most of the night just checking and pulling pups out from under her. I didn’t want any getting hurt or killed.
Here's our Springer Spaniel, Ruby, on her first day with her pups. They are all 12 to 18 hours old in these photos. First one was born at 15:45 on the 19th September (my birthday) and the last one at 21:25. She has 8 pups in all and we did think that she would be having more than that, because of the size of her. There must have been a lot of fluids in her.
She has settled well and is on constant look-out for intruders and is growling at everyone, including me. She will let me handle them, but looks very concerned when I do. She’s a great mum, is our Ruooob... :cheers
If your interested in a pup, please email me your mobile number and name at huttsathome@ntlworld.com and I'll ring you back. :cheers

Nice pups fluffle, I really like springers, had a german pointer for almost 17 years, had to put him to sleep last january because of a tumour in his neck!!!
I really do miss him!!!!
Last tuesday I found a stray mongrel which I am keeping temporary in my garage but till now have been deeply disappointed in trying to home him!!
The sanctuarys are all full up, and talked to various farm people etc that keep dogs and no one wants him either!!
I cannot keep him in my garage, its not a nice place to keep a dog in, and the wife does not want him indoors so I will probably let him go again, If he stays around I can put food and water for him but cant do much more unfortunately!!
Now if only I had a decent garden!!!
HEre he is, has a cute face but the rest was very skinny poor thing, have given him lots to eat and he was really hungry but this morning turned his nose down at the food I prepared yesterday night for him!!

Hi
I know you don't want to keep him, but I am sure the garage is a better place for him to spend the night, untill a new home is found, at least he gets fed and watered etc.
I hate seeing Stray Dogs.
Cheers

Now you have him, you’re going to have to either keep him or get him a new home. Not good to let him go again.
The Garage will be a fine place for him so long as he has something to lie on that is not in direct contact with the floor. The cold of a concrete floor is not nice for him. Even a blanket on the floor will be very cold. Something off the floor is better.
Some food and water and I’ll be sure he'll be happy. Certainly better than what he's been getting being a stray for sure?
I'm sure there'll be someone in your street or area that will take him in.
Have you had him checked at a vet for a Micro Chip? Someone may be frantic at losing their dog. _________________

He does not like much staying in the garage and was barking and whining when I put him back in yesterday after letting him run around a bit!!!
had to let him go again so not to upset the neighbours sleep!!
He is still running around there, as some minutes ago I have phoned my wife at home and she said he was back infront of the door that minute whining and barking!!
Have tried various peolpe trying to home him and always received negative responses!!!!
I love dogs, had mine as already said for almost 17 years and we adopted him from the SPCA as a two month old pup, I loved that dog and spent a small fortune on medicne and vets with him but he was worth every single cent!!
I wish I could keep this one as he really has got attached to me, probably I was the first person to show him some small kindness in a while!
Do not wish to break his heart yet one more time!!! |

It's the first thing I would have done, as he could be Micro Chiped. They will be able to put you in-touch with a rescue centre of sorts. _________________

Take him to the vets or a police station and leave him there if nothing else, then at least he is not running the streets.
Cheers

I live in malta not in uk!!
the police do not have anything to do with stray dogs and surely will tell you to get that b****y dog out of the station!!
I have not taken him to a vet cause the local one was closed for a week for holidays and I do not want to put him in my car since I carry my daughter in the car too and if he has thicks fleas etc do not want them to get to my daughter!!!
I doubt he is microchipped since he is a mongrel and of no value to certain people, I am fairly sure he did not get lost and has been roaming the streets for quite some time since he even knows how to cross the road and i m not joking!!
today I'll get him some de worming pills and something against thicks and fleas!
the shelters are all full and i got to know that if this situation continues all other dogs that are homeless and are taken to shelters will be put down!!
surely alive in the streets is much better than dead keeping in mind that he has both food and fresh water and i will be taking care of him, giving him a bath every now and then and trying to keep him healthy, when i take him to the vet this week I will ask the vet to take a blood sample and check his health!!!
I really wish I could keep him but swmbo insists on saying no!!! |

AAhh, didn't realise you are in Malta... You haven't got a location up under your forum name..
It's nice to hear that you'll be doing a bit to look after him. Maybe he is just a roamer and with you showing a bit of compassion, he'll come and go for his food and drink, and a bath now and then?
With winter coming, he’ll want somewhere warm to sleep at night.
What are winters like in Malta? _________________

I've looked after stray dogs in the past when I lived with mum before getting married that is and love dogs especially (i like all animals but dogs in particular).
HE does not go that much away, and is sleeping at our doorstep but cannot put him a kennel or anything outside since there's not much space!!
Yesterday he spent a couple of hours with me at the garage whilst I was washing, polishing and waxing my everyday car but still wouldnt stay in there alone!!!
Winters are not that bad over here although overnight temeprature drops to 7 or 8 degrees may happen but not untill january and february normally!!
I am hoping I might have homed him until than and if he stays around til then!!
I am circulating emails with my mobile phone number on so who knows !!! |

Hi
I think you will find the police have nothing to do with them in the UK either!! But it is better than leaving him stray.
Sometimes the sad way out is the kindest, long term, but that is not for me to say, I am not there with the dog etc, it is up to you to do what you think is best for the dog.
Cheers
