Hello all, Im a newbie on here and my name is Barry. Im looking for a pre war car to buy, after something not too pricey so sub £6000. So far, I keep missing the ones for sale as people seem to be buying them quickly. Hoping to see a Morris 8 Series E later today.

Ive owned loads of old 60s and 70s cars so Im used to what to look for etc, just not used to the drive of the older classics yet! A friend has a Jaguar Mk IV and let me have a drive.... interesting experience that was. Laughing

Hi Barry, welcome to the forum!

Yup good examples of any pre-war car don't seem to stick around for long do they. It'd be worth picking up a copy of Classic Car Weekly (or is it now called C C Buyer?) and seeing what's advertised there when the next issue comes out this week.

Missed yet another Morris 8... local too and it went yesterday! Thanks for the help so far, I think 1932 is a little early, thinking from 1934 through to 39 ideally. A postwar car would be OK as long as it looked identical to its pre war version.

My preferances are Morris 8 Series E
Morris 10/4
Austin 10 Lichfield
Austin 10 Cambridge
Wolseley 8 et al

Not adverse to an Austin Big 7 or Ruby if the right car. Im in no rush, which is just as well as they keep selling!

Hello Barry G welcome to the site, just like you I've had lots of sixties and seventies cars but got to a point where I wanted one to keep long term so went for something a bit older with more old world character (Not saying the sixties/seventies cars don't have character but cars like a Mk 10 Jag don't feel that much different from an XJ6) I like you wanted something that looked prewar but was still practical to use and maintain and in the end went for a 1949 Rover P3 - 75, she's an absolute joy to drive with a big thin steering wheel opening up to a view down the long bonnet to the rad cap and the top of her two chrome head lamps, whining first and second gears with no syncro on the bottom two so lots of double declutching, I could go on but don't want to bore so go for it but don't forget the post war ones. Here's a photo of the beast in question

Thats a very nice Rover, gorgeous colours too. You know the real problem with looking for something specific? I keep seeing much later cars that tempt me Laughing
