I have recently bought a Viking fibreline I. I have always wanted a classic/retro van so couldn't resist this one on ebay.
(graphics now removed as they are previous owners business)
The van was descried as watertight and on inspection I could find no signs of damp. However, once I had got the van home, and following a downpour, I am faced with this....
I friend suggested I run round the trims at the front end of the van with some caravan sealant, which I have done. This doesn't seem to have stopped the damp. Can anyone suggest where the damp may be coming from? and also how I might be able to stop it?
My other question is, are the rubber seals for this type of aluminium window availiable anywhere? I emailed seals direct but they asked for a picture of a cross section of one. I don't want to remove any from the van to take a photo in case I have problems reinserting it. On the big window the rubber seal has perished and is leaking. This is, although in the same corner as the damp, a separate issue.
Here are some photos of the window seal...
Any advice/suggestions would be hugely appreciated.
Many thanks

Is the wet inside the bunk locker as well, at best its a leaking seam which might be fixed by taking off the beading and resealing it, at worst it might need the inside panel removing and a new section of frame replaced. _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)

Its wet on the underside of the bit that is damp in the photo, and a bit on top of the bunk locker the other side
The second photo is the bunk locker the other side on the central drawers.
I don't think its condensation as the walls all seem dry. It seems to be coming out where the wall board is cut above the bunk lockers, but I'm no expert! |

well if the wall panel is soft I reckon you will have to take it off and see whats happening under it with the frame and see if you can find the leakage point. _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)

None of the wall panels are soft. Thats whats so confusing. I wouldn't know where to start with taking a wall panel off! |

Looking at it you may have caught it in time, it looks like a new leak to me, no soft walls and no water marks as such. Good idea if youre new to it all to get someone to have a look for you, maybe a seam rather than a disaster. _________________ Mick

Uncle alec, that would have been great but unfortunately I am in Bucks, down south. Thanks for offering though, its just a shame I'm so far from you.
I am going to call some places up and get them to take a look. I am prepared to spend out on the van as I love it and just want to preserve and prolong its life. |

I have found a friendly mobile caravan service/repair chap who is coming out next week. He is going to service the 2 way fridge and sort the gas hob and take a look at the damp and electrics. All for £45 at the mo. I dread to think what the damp repairs might be. I have covered her up in preparation for the snow thus/fri. |
