When I was about 11 and living in Barnsley, York's, our Prudential Insurance man Mr Radford, bought one of these new. I know it was Grey. I thought it was great and he gave us all a ride a round the estate. My Dad, who was not fond of anything American, thought it was too "Yankee looking". I clearly remember the wrap around windshield and the way it projected into the door openings.

We went on to own a couple of MkII and 375 Consuls, so the "Yankee look" must have grown on Dad.

Certainly looks to have been well cared for but if you're looking for one of these surely it has to be the previous model with the kick in the side and the exhaust poking through the bumper!

Not many did like them in the 1950's as they rusted out within the year

I believe on the early ones like Peter mentioned, the exhaust exited through one side of the bumper! It was soon dropped as the water from the exhaust caused the bumper to rust away Shocked

As Phil suggests the rusting rear bumper was the least of your problems.

This one must have never been left out in the rain.

An interesting survivor but at the risk of being shot really they are grey porridge. Style over substance in many ways although the engines were not so bad.

Apart from rusting, all I can rememberabout these was that my Morris Mini would outrun them. Which left their drivers looking either bemused or angry. Particularly since Minis were newly launched and often were mistaken for "bubble" cars and the like.

Mt dad used to get a lift to work in an early one andone day there wer 6 people in the car and they couldn't open open the doors to get out. It had sagged in the middle. The driver had to go to a garage and get them to jack up the middle of the car before the doors would open.

I used to work on these at a Vauxhall main dealer the Victor with the exhaust that came out through the offside rear bumper was the series 1 and i remember fitting a new rear exhaust box on one of these and originally it had a rubber grommet to stop the pipe from rattling on the bumper the customer complained about this and i had to get an old mechanic to help me get it just right as there was very little room around the pipe and the grommet was obsolete this was late 1964, later on i purchased a 1960 series 2 along with a Hillman Minx 1958 for the two £25 but it was in 1971 the Victor had a badly worn eng that would just about start cold but lost its go when hot so a trip to the local breakers for another eng the next thing that went was the nearside anti-roll bar chassis mounting so i drilled right through the chassis and fitted a long bolt and nut after about 18mths i sold it for £60,the Minx after a lot of body filler on the sills and a new oil pump went for about £40,i did have another two old Vauxhalls but that's another story.

i love the 'f'victors!i had one as my first car,before i'd got a license.used to drive it everywhere.had to abandon it,when i got done for no license etc. Laughing

if only i knew then...later on i had a 101 victor,all legal as well.then a git ran into the back of me and turned it copletely over,and back onto its wheels.HJU 491D.he got done for driving offences,i got done for GBH on him.i wasn't happy Evil or Very Mad
