Today, due to a request from a local primary school who are doing a project on transport, some members of my local car club attended. It was my first run out since buying my P6 in December, first I snapped the choke knob, but then everything went well. Brakes booked in for bleeding on Monday as they started up a bit spongy then firmed up, but I could hear the rust clearing off the discs for the first couple of applications. (according to the history fluid about 6yrs old). The cars which turned up varied from a 1935 Ford Model Y, 3x TR6's, MGB GT, 1969 Morgan, 1973 Stag, and my P6B. Not bad for a small club on a Monday afternoon in January at short notice, get them converted into petrolheads young!! I discovered that no matter how cold it was, and it was, I had to drive with the radio off and the window down, Oh the sound of a V8 on country roads, Glorious.
I hope these photos are not too huge as I'm a technomuppet.

What a great turnout, imagine the kiddies were really excited? My daughters class is doing the same project this term and I am down there this Monday with these 3 cars, my Manta, my Dads Morris, the other red one borrowed from a good friend. Wanted to show the evolution of cars through the last 80 years, but couldn't find anything in between available locally for this Monday pm:-
Will try and post some pics up of how it went Monday.

Excellent! I hope you drummed it into em that it's more environmentally friendly to keep an old car going, instead of replacing it every 5 years. It's early on when they are starting to pay attention to the environment, they get fed all that rubbish from the manufacturers about new cars being better for the environment! Never mind it's the manufacturing that does as much (if not more) damage than the actual running of the thing. _________________ A Transit's for life, not just for Christmas!

They were great, they had been to a local garage last week, the teacher said they now know how to do an oil change, they're only 5&6, one little lad was so serious when he gave me a grilling about my car being a V8 and what that meant!! |

I'm really looking forward to Monday. Just hope I can keep all the sticky fingers of those 6-7 year olds off the cars. Glad yours went well, and I know where to get a cheap oil change now then.

And what does it mean? I hope he was talking about how many pistons the engine has, and not about it damaging the environment (see above). _________________ A Transit's for life, not just for Christmas!

That would be good Richard, it's Southminster Primary School, Southminster at 1pm on Monday 31st. Pm me if you want to come Richard and I'll sort it with the teacher. Can always meet at mine first, I'm only round the corner.
Cheers,

Well done for taking your classics to the school - and a pat on the back to the teachers for using their initiative with their transport project and inviting you. It's a pity it's a no-no to take photos of the kids with the cars; a sad reflection on the time in which we live. |

Now, who's got a Hillman Hunter or MK2 Cortina to fill the 1960's/ early 1970's slot? |

Fred, the grilling was how a Vee engine was different to a straight engine, he was a petrol head in the making, but as was said to me later, 3500cc isn't impressive when your dad has a 9 litre turbo tractor!! |

I get you. I hope you told him you wouldn't pop down the shops in a 9L tractor..... _________________ A Transit's for life, not just for Christmas!

Here's a few pictures from the trip to my 6 year old daughters school on Monday. We had 3 vehicles there, a borrowed Ferrari, my fathers Morris Cowley Four, and Richard H's Austin Cambridge which he kindly bought along at short notice. The weather was fresh but bright and the children really enjoyed seeing the cars, and had lots of questions prepared. I had a great day, and the school was very grateful also. I would recommend doing this if you hear about anything similar at your local schools, was a good day.
