Is anyone getting this? I'm really really tempted but £600 could be spent on my REAL classic car rebuild.

| Nice as that looks, it really doesn't look like it has the quality of other models in that price range. I have an autoart DB5 model, and it looks better made than that, and it cost a great deal less. It will be fun to build, but I'd rather spend the money on my car. |

What happens if the company goes bust before you get all the parts required?
For me, I think I could spend the £600 ish on 'better things'. I know my wife could |

Save your money
If past magazine model bit by bit sales are anything to go by.
I have been a model maker since school and followed reviews and blogs on past scale???? model mags.
A lot of negative feedback on all I have seen, inaccuracies, poor quality, broken parts, costly replacements for broken parts.
And the overall price is way above anything that you could get as a kit of the same scale.
OK there are some who enjoy the challenge of having to rectify any faults with home made parts.
But in my own opinion I'd sooner spend less money on a better quality kit or ready made model. |

I remember some years back you could build a large scale model of the Titanic but after I think about 5 or 6 issues of the magazine, they scrapped it!
So as mention above, if this happens half way through you're left with some very expensive, useless parts!
I prefer to scratchbuild large models, it's cheaper! |

They did get to the end of the build the titanic collection, as for if they suspend a partwork collection after a few parts the publisher puts a letter in the last part informing you of this and you can return them for a full refund. They test these partworks in different parts of the country to judge how well they sell before putting them on general release. the newsagents get sale or return for the first few parts then they go firm sale which is why you no longer see them on the shelves, it is the newsagents that can cop out on these as people place regular orders then never go and pick them up and they get stuck with them, eventually give up and cancel the order with the wholesaler but are still left out of pocket. the only winner is the publisher watch out for all the fantastic FREE gifts that you can get if you subscribe |

Does anyone here know of somebody who has actually completed a full build of any of these weekly part magazines - and if they do what is the quality of the model like? The Flying Scotsman is just one example that springs to mind.
My other half once bought me a magazine that had the first in a series of historical fire engines included - quite a reasonable model for £1.99, but I didn't buy the next 39(?) issues because the magazine cost jumped to something like £7.99 each. |

| Did build the dolls house that was built from a part work, ended up binning the wall sections as they were to flimsy when put together and cutting out new ones from a single sheet of ply, had to modify many parts to give them strength. Some of the furniture was OK some but some was rough and poorly finished, would have been cheaper to buy a kit. |

These always look good in the adverts, but the reality is rather different!
To be honest, I feel these "part works", and the reference book/atlas type things sold in the same manner are something of a conn trick.
Assuming that the publisher continues to the very end, your model or atlas or whatever has been a very expensive one.... _________________ Saluton. mi estas fervojistino, kaj vi?

No it lasted to the death, and then I picked up all the magazines (along with the started model) on ebay for about a tenth of the price! Here it is so far:
