a ransomes and rapier crane is for sale at the mid suffolk light railway in suffolk.
it is a runner and has recently been used for lifting carriages and other general duties
it hasnt been used since a cable snapped and it will need a new cable and safety ticket which the owners cant justify
this is a picture of the crane
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1841629
oweing to its weight it will sell for a minimum of its weight in scrap
the mslr can be contacted through their website http://www.mslr.org.uk/ or phoned wednesday/saturday/sunday
i have no association with them but would like it to find a home rather than be scrapped |

Sadly, the old crane is now scrapped, the men with the oxy acetylene torches started on it today

A sad end' its a shame the railway couldnt keep it as a static exibit untill funds were available but I guess in these hard times they must raise money anyway they can. _________________ If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off |

I hope that it wasn't a rare one!
there has been enough of that sort of vandalism in various quarters.
problem is that the price of scrap metal is so high that the £££ signs can take over when a place is short of cash...... _________________ Saluton. mi estas fervojistino, kaj vi?

The company that I work for is helping to preserve our heritage, there are masses of things out there that need looking after, but the funds are not available to do more than scatch at the surface......
Once something is cut up or burnt then it is gone forever, and even a replica is not quite the same......as one or two places/organisations have found.
This has always happened, but the high price for scrap metal seems to be making things worse.....
