The exact date of this photo is unknown but I estimate around 1914.
It shows a Milnes Daimler petrol driven omnibus the first in this part of North Wales.
It's regular driver was a Mr Rhys Thomas (shown) and the vehicle was probably bought second hand by the LNWR from the London Omnibus Company.

The vehicle shows "LF" registration letters, London clearly, but am I correct in estimating an issue from 1907/08 or 09?[/img]

Thank you.

That means that if the date I was given for the photo is correct then this bus was almost new.

"The first bus in the Conwy Valley"............and then three came along at once! Wink

A good pic, I have a book of Great Western Road Vehicles and they operated some interesting stuff as well with some of the buses having demountable bodies so that they could also run as lorries.

Pete.

Ellis, great photo. Just helped me to identify a similar bus run by Provincial in Grimsby, probably late or post WWI. Nearer to you, Halton, Widnes used this type, double D's and singles.
However.... it's not a Milnes-Daimler. This bus was made by Commercial Cars Ltd: a Luton built Commer from 1909 onwards, possibly a YC (3 Ton) or MC (2 ton). Two clinchers: the chain cover fitted to all but two of the contemporary Commer models (the damage to which makes it unquestionably not new) and what's written on its curved-base front chassis cross-member. If you blow the picture up you can read the embossed letters: ...MER left of the starting handle and CARS to the right.
