I own two vinage Austin Sevens- a little older than some recent posts. the first shown here is a 1929 Austin Standard Sports, body built in Melbourne (back then all Austins were imported as chassis). It hadn't been driven for ten years and I spent 6 monthe overhauling all mechanicals. Unfortunately unlike some very clever posters I didn't take any photographs.

G'day Tony. That looks rather like a machine a friend owned in the early 1960's. That was on the Mornington Peninsular. Do you have a photo of the rear of the car? _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Dane,
It was what we used to call an Ace in the 60's but we now know as The Austin Standard Sports. Mine was sold by Latrobe Motors of latrobe St Melbourne so is badge engineered 'Austin Latrobe'
Rear view -
Full alloy body on timber frame by Floods Motor Body Works Melbourne. Top speed a blistering 60 mph (feels like 100!) with a high comp 1937 cylinder head, flattened cam followers, modified VW Bosch distributor and a side draught SU carburettor, but standard suspension giving the typical Austin 7 ride

I found a couple of photos taken in about 1961. It would be remarkable if it was the same car.

Dane,
Not mine but I checked with Bill Sheehan who suggested an this is an earlier Standard Sports model wich had a slightly different tail, fitted with a non standard screen and headlights and a different cowl to the original. I wonder what happened to it?
Thanks for the pictures.
