Saw this advertised locally last night,just had to go and have a look.
One owner from new,49,000 miles,garage stored for 28 years,rust free,interior like new,had a good root inside and underneath it.........had to buy it.!!!
Collect it tomorrow,will post some photo`s after cleaning it.

| Looking forward to some photos. Rootes cars are very underrated - I have a Series IIIb and a IIIc, both off the road awaiting restoration. Trying to get the engine freed off in the IIIc. |

Can't wait for the pics - my Dad had a '63 Minx, white with a red interior. AYX 546B it was. I remember we hit a pheasant on a country road once... he'd fitted an extended interior mirror which was held on with springs around the back of the car's mirror, which fell off. No other damage! We took the bird home, our neighbour plucked it and Dad hung it in the garage for some time before we ate it.
If I recall correctly he hit an indicated 90 once. Must have been flat out! I was about 5 or 6 and car-mad! |

This is how I found the car after being in this garage since 1982,sometimes you cannot believe people would walk by this nearly every week to get things out of the garage and not think about doing something with it.?
The owners were quite emotional when I went to collect it the next day,they explained that it had belonged to their father who purchased it new in July 1965 from Blue Star Garage Maidstone Road, Ruxley, Sidcup Kent. I assured them that it was going to a good home,and they asked if I would take it round to show them when I got it back on the road.
I will post some more photo`s now I have cleaned it up.

It fitted on the trailer quite well.I got it home and pressure washed 28 years of dirt off it.
I then changed all the fluids,fitted new plugs,points etc.
Cleaned out the fuel tank, removed the carburetor and cleaned that also and blew out the feed pipes.
I then put some oil down the bores and turned the engine over with the starting handle to get it moving after all that time.
Cranking the engine over with a battery soon had the oil pressure up.
With a bit of petrol down the bores and in the top of the carburetor she fired up.
The engine soon settled down to a nice tick over.
Then there was the job of sorting out the master and slave cylinders and braking system.

That's really nice - interior looks virtually new. Bet the doors shut beautifully with little effort from "just ajar".
May be worth you trying Tom at "Coastings" for cylinders - Bought some for mine from him a year or so back.
Was the clutch stuck - I've found my 1960 minx prone to this after being left for the winter. |
