There are lots of classic car insurers out there, I use RH Insurance (however I do work for Equity Red Star who own them), but they're usually pretty good, I pay £107 a year for my Manta.
Have heard Lancaster are reasonable too. You could try finding a broker in your area to see what they come up with, they might have access to other markets.
I'd say you could do cheaper than that though yes.

Hi
It is actually quite difficult to say if this is good or bad.
£194 Full Comp, with no NCB and unlimited mileage would be fantastic.
£194 Full Comp with say 80% NCB and 2000 miles pa could be extortionate.
Garaged or ungaraged?
Brixton and East Lancs for instance will be high premium areas other more salubrious areas will be cheaper. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Presumably Carol Nash have included British and European break down/get you home cover which would make it more realistic. However, for a comparison, cover for my two litre Triumph Gentry (2L Vitesse in disguise) is £106 per year fully comp. from Carol Nash with said breakdown cover and £3500 guaranteed value ( I only asked for £3000 - they added the extra £500 when photos were submitted). It is only 3000 miles limited mileage though.
As for the breakdown cover provided by Carol Nash, the bike also being insured by them. As I was boarding the ferry with my Triumph 5TA bike leaving the I.O.M last year my clutch cable snapped. I rang from the ferry and there was a recovery van on the dockside when I reached Liverpool and the driver opted to take me home to Chesterfield rather than keep me waiting while the cable was replaced, which means taking the end off the gearbox on that model.
Wonderful service! I saved a couple of gallons of petrol AND arrived home before my mates who seemed to have taken a rather roundabout route without me.
Jim.
P.S. I didn't really save the cost of the petrol because I gave it the recovery man for his wonderful help! _________________ Quote from my late Dad:- You only need a woman and a car and you have all the problems you

I would usually think of Carole Nash as a bike insurer, so maybe they don't have so many markets for classic cars. They are only a broker for a Lloyds Syndicate however, so if I was you, and you're happy with their service, I would get some alternative quotes FIRST on 3000 limited mileage, then ring them to see if they'll match it! That way you'll get a better deal and you can stay with the insurer of your choice.

Yeah, this is the one drawback Richard, sorry mate. I'm not in the motor area, so have no say in that. Unfortunately insurance is based on statistics, and under 25's have more accidents, that's just the way it is. I've never had an accident in 25 years of driving, but would still get rated on statistics, that's all insurers have to go on. Sometimes it's hard to understand when you're young, a good driver and sensible, but get lumped together in that under 25 category! _________________ Born to rally, forced to work!

Hi
I am thinking of changing all my insurance to NFU, I got quotes for some of the stuff the other day and of the old stuff the dearest was about £95 a year. I also like I can go into town, and walk into the office, instead of phoning india, and being asked to press 1 then 4, then 8, then 2.... press 1 if you think you have made a mistake as this is no longer a valid option. Oooo it anoys me that does!
Cheers

Hi
I was once looking to insure my Ford on a classic policy and I was well under 25, only 25 now, I could not find anyone, one even said to me you don't have a classic, your not allowed one untill your 25!! I told them to come and look in the shed! Anyway I then heard of Pete Best, as I was working on an engine at the time, that he had interest in, or owned, and told him about my age, the Ford etc, he asked what I had done to it, and the answers made him aware I was sensible, and through spending large ammounts of money and time recomisioning the Ford, I would be careful with it, so he insured me. It may have changed now, but I would recomend Pete Best insurance, for under 25's, mention steam and that you really are an enthusiast, etc, then you may have half a chance!
Cheers
Dave

I've been with "Footman James" for about 23 years now and never had trouble with them. My Land Rover Series 3 costs me £102 a year fully comp and with breakdown cover. _________________

I've been with RH for 15 years and last years renewal for the Chevrolet was £120 comprehensive - garaged, semi-rural, 56 year old driver, 3000 miles per year.
I had a "no-fault" bump in the car two years ago and the company pursued the third party very efficiently to recoup the repair costs - and then recovered my excess without me even asking for help. |
