There was a show at East Kilbride on Sunday. I went with my mate in his HC Viva as our Marina club could not get in as it was fully booked. We applied at the beginning of March weeks before the closing date. When we arrived the Jaguar club, The BMW club and the Japanese car club had all modern cars on show right up to a 57 plate. It was billed as a classic car show but you can see these club cars in Asda car park any day of the week. These guys turn up at most shows throughout the year. If I was amember of the public paying my 7 quid to get in I wouldnt want to be seeing new cars on show. The organisers really have a lot to answer for as they obviously cannot define what a classic car show is meant to be. I also blame these clubs for having the audacity to enter in the first place. I agree totally but at £7 entry fee for the public they clearly place their profits ahead of true "Classic" content

The show I attend usually have an age limit. your right about these cars not belonging at classic shows.
My list of shows has reduced this season due to opting out of all the Mark Woodward events after being charged 4 times the prebook price for just turning up on the day. I emailed and complained about being ripped off £12 to exibit my car and there response was as expected (****).

I stopped going to the EK show after they put all the classic American car owners beside a group of arrogant plooky youths who's idea of 'customising' was cramming their hanging Astras and Novas with the biggest speakers they could get to fit and proving the noise produced really did annoy everybody at the show.

I left after half an hour and have never been back since.

Bottom line - as I said in a previous similar thread, its all about making money, not about the owners or for the public.

I have been going to our local Battlesbridge show twice a year for the last 4 years, and they have the same problem there. If you enter as a single entrant, the vehicle has to be pre-1980, but the club stands just book in for say 15-20 cars, and it seems they will put anything on those stands to fill the places so they don't get excluded for not displaying cars in the future. But the amount of Ford Puma's and MkIV Fiestas and stuff on these stands is a joke. Likewise the Jag's, lot's of modern S and X types etc, but in no way are they classics yet as too modern. I find it frustrating too.

If you prebook at Battlesbridge as a single entrant it's free, but if you want to have a club stand each entrant has to pay a fiver, which seems like a right old rip to me.

We're going to Cholmondeley Castle for the classic car show on Sunday, no doubt there'll be lots of modern Jags, Mercs and Fords

Paying to visit a show with so many moderns in it would get me quite wound up too.

It's a case of show organisers being too flexible with their interpretation of 'classic' but if they have space to fill and classic clubs aren't able to get sufficient members, what elase are they to do?

Many shows in Western Australia are themed by the cars place of manufacture. For example All British Day, or All American Day or All European Day.

When ever I go to an All British Day with one of my Austins, I find there are Holdens, Mercedes and even Jap cars displayed as well. It aggrievates me! Even then there are many late model Jags, Morgans and the odd Roller or three! Spoils the spirit of the whole thing!

I have found recently that local agricultural shows are now including classic cars/bikes etc (usually pre 73 is a req.) as well as classic tractors. This ensures me a good show, lots to see, and free entry other than a sae. I don't mind paying a nominal sum for show entry, usually to cover postage (and a useless rally plaque with edges so sharp I bleed all over my upholstery), but I do object to businesses thinking I will gladly pay to provide an exhibit in their show, which consists of purely classic vehicles and stalls, all of which have paid to be there. Without us there is no show.
Charity shows/road runs/fund raising events, are a whole different matter, if all profits are going to charity, then I'm an easy touch!
Never had a problem with Mark Woodwards events, I early book, they are cheap, and it is where I meet up with friends I have made in the classic vehicle world over the last 20 odd yrs that I now only met annually.

I read somewhere that a certain motorsport event, not far from me, is charging club exhibitors £15 per day to exhibit their car Don't see that going down too well with many people - but I'm drifting OT a bit here.

Regarding static shows, I think my enthusiasm for them is waning a little to be honest. I prefer motorsport events, or at least classic events that have busy display arenas, so that you can at least see and hear classics moving under their own power. OT again, sorry

I've not exhibited at any classic shows for some years now, but when we were asked to pay for camping at a show, we voted with our tyres, and never went back. I never have, and never will pay to exhibit my classic.
