|

Hello! I'm new here; pleased to meet you all.
Having just fallen in like with and bought a Cheltenham Sable from the early 70s, I've a couple of questions that I was hoping for some help with.
The wood on the underside from the wheel arches to the end of the van (just on the sides - not the main flooring) seem to have perished and need replacing. What material should I replace them with? I was thinking marine ply but I haven't a clue. And should I be working from underneath or would it be better to work from inside the van?
I painted the metal undercarriage and steadies etc with rust primer. Should I overpaint it with anything or is that sufficient?
The main door has dropped a little bit too, so I was going to take the hinges off and reposition them to fix that. What's the best thing to use to fill the original screw holes?
Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks in advance for any assistance. |

Hi There, you don't seem to be getting any answers to your question and I wondered if you had tried this forum http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/
there are a lot of people on there who have renovated /restored caravans and you might get answers on there.
Good luck

always use tanalised(treated timber )
usualy the side sections are screwed to battens on the upper part of the flooor but you can screw new timber to the underside and screw the side battens to them it makes the job a lot easyer and can't be seen
