|

Hi all having just had a blow out and discovered that the spare was the wrong pcd we are now after a spare of the correct size . We are after a 4 stud 13" with a 4 1/2" pcd and a 2 3/4" centre hole . Originally these wheels had 3 studs on for the hub cap to be applied and to the best of our knowledge were made for b&b trailers .Any help or advice would be much appreciated . |

sorry this is for the caravan a 1967 cheltenham nyala, it came with a spare four studs wheel so when we got it we changed the tyre etc always made sure that it was inflated etc, but never thought to check it was the right PCD untill we had a blow out on the A11 the police had to close a lane for us then we found out the PCD was wrong and the caravan ended coming home on a low loader |

I also had a problem, I bought a second hand Ford, from a dealer. After about 2 years and 400 kms from home, I found that the spare wheel did not fit. What I worked out was that the dealer to please another buyer had taken the spare out of my car and changed them over. The other guy would have had the same problem..... |

Gillberry.
I don't know anything about PCD, but I have several old Austin A30/A35 wheels sitting here, they're 4 stud and 13". If you find out this is the correct PCD/centre hole then you're welcome to one. I might even be able to bring it to Norfolk next time I'm up that way.

Many thanks for the offer , we are still trying to get hold of more knowledgeable cheltenham owners to find out what car based (if any) wheels will fit but as the axle stubs are B&B we have a feeling with the knowledge gained so far that only these wheels will fit . If we find out otherwise and your wheels are a fit we will definitely pm you .

PCD or Pitch Circle Diameter is the centre-centre distance between OPPOSITE holes on a 4-stud wheel. It may not be the same as the distance between ADJACENT holes. It's more difficut to measure on a 5-stud wheel.
I think A35 & Mini wheels have a 4" PCD.
You also need to consider OFFSET which is the difference between the rims & the wheel mounting flange - FWD cars usually have negative offset, RWD cars usually have zero - positive offset.
I would imagine that trailers usually have zero offset - the basic objective is to get the centre-line of the tyre over the centre-line of the bearings.
There are exceptions.
Don't use metric wheels on Imperial cars! (seriously).

Hope this helps. _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

Hi Gill, I have just put a set of brake shoes on a friends MkV Alpine which has very similar wheels, even down to the hub cap mountings, which would make me think your wheels may be some type of Rootes wheels. Sorry I don't have the PCD or centre info & he's now away off shore so can't get that for a fortnight. Cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

The B&B axels were fitted to many makes of caravan. I think the rim is pretty standard. Any scrapped van from the same period that has B&B frame and axels should fit. Just a matter of finding a caravan breakers that would have second hand ones.
In the 50s they used car rims. My Vogue had Austin A40 Somerset wheels as standard.
I would be very suprised if a 13 inch Sprite, Willerby or Astral wheel didn´t fit.
Most caravan manufacturers bought the chassi and other under gear and made just the bodies themselves. The two biggest manufacturers were Peak and B&B. They only did chassis, axels and hitches, which they supplied to the caravan/trailer factories |

Why don't you take one of your good wheels to a motor wreckers and just ask for a wheel the same?

thanks for the suggestion but we are looking for something from the 50s to 60s and our local scrap people do not hold stock going back that far, we have been there and done that before when we are looking for parts for our classics |

The wheel on your caravan was never used by a car manufacturer. It was specially made for caravans and light trailers by Dunlop.
I have been up in my loft and dug out my old B & B Trailers technical information from my time working there and the wheel that you need is a Dunlop LP891 with a 4.5J x 13 with 5.5'' PCD (139.7mm) measured from one hole across the centre of the wheel to the opposite hole. The centre bore is 3.75'' (95.25mm) and the inset is 1'' (25.4mm).
If you look carefully at your wheel the part number LP891 and rim profile is stamped into the rim on the horizontal part of the rim.
This wheel was used by B & B, Peak, Caravans International (Sprite, Fairholme) etc. and as Alan says was used on all British caravans from the mid 50s up to the late 70s so should be found at a caravan breaker.
After that time and when ALKO took over they changed to a Vauxhall/Opel wheel with 100mm PCD.
I have all the information on wheel bearings and oil seals if anyone is interested.
I am sure that you should be able to find one. _________________ Keep Torqueing,
