I bought a 420 five years ago and it is a great car.
Although at its time it was more expensive than a Mk2 or an S type, its market value is now lower. It has the advantages of having a bigger cooling system than a Mk2 or S-type, and power steering as standard.
Very reliable, never needed work on engine, auto box, brakes (discs allround) or suspension. It needed a new exhaust but that was not too expensive at 300 for a full SS system.
Car in the ad probably needs new doors - I have a spare set in better condition that I am willing to sell cheap to the new owner.
I never thought I would buy a 420 because I remembered the small Saloons as rot boxes and difficult to put right by DIY because of the many shut lines. Look at the section between the doors. That was the main reason for me for not looking at them. I do like the mixture - typical sixties feel to it (real substantial chrome, leather and wood, little things like opening quarterlights front and rear) but also on the other hand the possibility to go fast, as this still is a fast car. Especially for a classic!
When I was looking for a XJ6 S1 I came by my car by accident - and was pleasantly surprised by its condition (nearly rust free, imorted from the US years before). So I took the plunge although the car had been standing for 8 years and mech condition unknown. As said, almost nothing was needed mechanically to get it running reliably.
Now my daily driver.
Someone go for it especially as it is cheap. Parts are cheap (engine same as XJ6 - 4.2) and can easily be found second hand.

One thing that always fascinates me. This would never have been a cheap car, yet in almost half a century, if the listing is to be believed, it covered 23K miles.
