|
|
Hi this is my first post here, my wife and i are looking to buy a classic caravan, are there any other places/sites to look other than ebay?
We are looking for a small 2 berth with character, i am quite taken with the small Viking Fibreline. There seem to be 2 different size 2 berth versions. Are the earlier ones smaller, is there a site that covers the differences between the models? Many thanks for any help.........Martin |

Preloved is always worth a look, but the bulk seem to go through eBay. PCCC may be worth considering.
Welcome aboard by the way. Tell us more about this desire. |

Hi
I was interested by your query.
The last post is quite correct in that you will be governed by your tow vehicle. However, if you are truly looking for something special an alternative tow vehicle should be considered.
These posts have reminded me of a Carlight (Lantern Roof) spotted on a Campsite in 1986 - L'eqinoxe, Argeles-sur-Mere. The van was permanently pitched in the far NE corner of the site. When we last visited the site C2002 it was still there and looking a bit sad, but serviceable.
If you want something special then something like this might be for you.
Sadly, Pierre, le Patron passed away some years ago but when we last visited, his son was running the site.
Could be worth a phone call to see if it is still there and what the situation is. Equally, if you are really looking for something special take a look round campsites which also store caravans. Most have examples of vintage vans which are no longer in routine use - a tactful enquiry could well result in a bargain.
Good luck with your search |

Hello,
If you like the Viking Fibreline I would go for an early one with the curved front windows and light oak veneer interior. These were built up to about 1973.
A 12 foot 2 berth model is a fantastic size to tow for most classic cars over say...1600cc.
Another nice quality caravan is the Carlight Casalette, again 12 foot body length and a 2 berth model.
Both models are fully equipped with everything you will need.
I own both of these models and they look great behind a 1960`s classic car.
I might be selling one of these so PM me if you are interested for more
details.

Lovely Jag you have there, i`m into classic cars myself and will be towing the caravan with one once the car is restored. I love the look of the Fibreline`s particularly the shorter 2 berths. What is the difference in length between the shorter and longer 2 berths? Is there a book or webpage that is dedicated to Fibrelines? Any help appreciated.........Martin |

The body length on the smaller Fibreline 1 is 10'11",the next size up is 12'10" and the 2 berth Voyager is 13'3". These sizes are for the later models, earlier models are slightly shorter. We have a Fibreline 1 from 1979,the last ones were built in 1980.Hope this helps. |

We took our Jaguar and Viking Fibreline combination,(pictured above) to the Stamford Classic Car Show today and won best in show.
We find the public love these caravans, they have a lovely shape.
