Full size, one of each.
These were left in an outbuilding of the property I purchased, there's no paperwork with them and they're empty. I've not touched them in 6 years and would like them out of the way, unfortunately the scrap metal merchants don't want pressure vessels.
Would suit someone who has a mate with some 'legitimate' bottles and has the necessary hoses to transfer the gasses. Free to a good home but buyer collects!

They could a problem for people, my 02 bottle run out , they have to be tested every Ten years. I was charged £90 pass or fail and it took me three months to get them back. As the company only sends them out to be tested in a batch of ten bottles.
I would think its the same with your ones as well. I have been looking for two small ones for my gas cutting welding kit for ages.

Like I said, you can forget any form of business via BOC as I understand they are really strick with the bottles, ie barcodes around the necks and lorry drivers with computerised barcode readers.
I just want them out of the way as they take up room

Yes I have two old small old bottles, myself cannot get rid of them either?
They are about 15 years old I would guess. On my 02 gas bottle they were stamped the year they were last tested. It may help you to date your bottles? |

Hullo Julian, usually, the bottles are the property of the company supplying the gas, you only buy the gas in them!
If you only want to get rid of them have you tried the local BOC agent or any other company selling gas? I would have thought they'd be keen to get back a set of gas bottles, tested or not. I know BOC bottles are usually heavily stamped with their name, as I still use them, along with another company that does the same service for under half the price.

Hullo to you too. Yes they are BOC ones, I know they 'own' them. Being honest I can't be bothered trying to take them back as I think their nearest depot is in Manchester and I'm bound to get asked all sorts of questions by some dim-wit or have to deal with one of those annoying automated answer phones ie 'press one to get pissed off, press two to hear this again bla bla bla. I think I'll cut them up and then take them to the scrapyard

Julian, if you decide to cut them up, I reckon I'll be able to hear the bang here in Sussex!
If you contact BOC, they'll come and collect them for free, as their gas is all delivered by lorry. I've never found contacting my 'local' depot a problem, never get an automated answering system and the staff are usually pretty knowledgeable, but can't speak for your local depot though, being Manchester.
I'd have thought if you explained the circumstances of their bottles residing at your house, they would be understanding.
The other alternative, once you've informed them, is to say you'll charge them a daily rate for storage until they are collected! 
Seems like you want a whole heap of hassle, before you've tried the easiest solution to getting shot of the bottles.

Never had any problem with BOC loacl depot at Derby but then they only deal with account holders and I pay a small fortune every 5 years to rent my Portapac O2 and Acetylene and an extortionate refill and admin fee to exchange them - all + 20% VAT

Hmmmm, against my better judgement I just tried the 'easiest solution.' So I phoned up BOC in Manchester.
Answerphone, as expected!!!! pressed button three for 'all other enquiries' and got a Mancunian chappie demanding my account number - said I don't have one so he demanded my address which this I gave to him. Of course nothing shows up on his PC screen so he is forced to work off script and ask how he can help - I explain the situation to him, about twice. I then get transferred to another department and am now speaking to a Geordie chap so guess this is the head office although no explanation is forthcoming. Anyhow I have to do the explanation thing all over again and the Geordie takes my details for a second time. There then follows a lengthy discussion regarding the type/size of acetylene bottle as it seems there are a few sorts, all of similar size. I then get informed that the local 'field service' chap is called Chris Hunt and he will phone me 'within 6 weeks hopefully' so I give them my phone numbers. Several more pregnant pauses ensue and the chap apologises as it's taking ages to load data up into their IT system. I suggest that as he's done with me I'll leave him in peace but unfortunately I have to stay on the line for several more minutes while the system generates a reference number for me. With that all done I then ask if I can have Chris Hunt's number so I can contact him if I hear nothing - 'sorry sir, I'm not at liberty to divulge that information!'
So, about 15 minutes wasted on the phone + 10 minutes typing this crap, I've still got the bottles - I knew I shouldn't have bothered

My word, Julian, you've got a weird attitude towards life.
How do you know you've wasted the time, as you've not heard back from BOC and got a resolution to the problem? Are you always so negative about resolving issues? You sound like a whole bundle of fun!

Not at all, I was hoping someone would pop along with a pick-up and be happy for a 'free-gift.' If you can't differentiate between that and the effing long winded rigmarole I had on the phone to BOC then it is perhaps you that's the weird one! |

Had the same problem a few years back, wanted to get rid of two oxy/acet bottles just stuck them in my estate car and drove down to my local BOC agent in Great Yarmouth and told him I had just moved house and found them in a shed and that they must have been left by the last owner. They took the bottles off me no questions asked not even name or address and even thanked me for my responsible attitude in handing the bottles in.
