We went to this event yesterday (15th july) at the Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey.
We took the old ancient road from Godmanchester the A1098 to Royston,then the A10 to Waltham Abbey,it is only the last few miles that the road gets very suburban.
Driving a classic car onlong this route is a pleasure.bygone motoring at its best.
On the way home we stopped off at the historic Buntingford for a stroll around,it was one of those rare evenings with the sun shining that you were not in a rush to get home..we never make plans for Sunday nights for just this reason.
The venue is excellent for a day out,not only have you the vehicles to look at but you also have the acres of woodland to explore,the derelict buldings,viaducts,aquaducts,museums etc etc,a real hidden gem.
Far better than being stuck on a rally field all day.
The vehicles were parked all around the various buildings,grass and tarmac areas,making the displays more interesting than parking Sainsbury`s style on a grass field.
Why can organisers not find someone in a club with a bit of artistic flare to look at displaying the vehicles a bit better at events.? I would love the job. "Left Right Left Right you orrible lot."!!!
Anyway back to the show....here are just a few of the vehicles on display,we were allowed to drive around the grounds on tarmac roads three or four times during the day..this was very popular.... and not a flourescent jacket to be seen all daylong.... you are not allowed to move your vehicle at some events.
Do support this event next time.

Hi
You need to edit your post, either put a space between the image brackets seperating the 2 fire alarm pics or even delete one of them (they appear to be the same).
If you do this the thread will be normal width.

I am so glad you enjoyed this event - I am the organiser!! I was on the microphone for the convoys round the place.
In previous years we have had the cars in lines on the big field but as it was water-logged this year we put all the cars on the concrete or the road sides where the ground was firmer, and as you said it made for a much better display and will be the format for next year.
But I am disappointed not to have knowingly met you, which of your cars did you come in?
Thanks for the recommendation, let us make it an OCC event for next year.

Trouble is, there often isn't enough room to do that. Within a general show (those I've been to, at least) there seems to be pressure on the organisers to squeeze in as many cars as humanly possible into the show area. And within an individual club stand area, unless you ask for four times as many passes as you have cars (which is never popular), you don't usually get enough space to spread out and do anything interesting. And if the showground has enough space to spread things out, you only need a few sparse or empty stands to make it look daft.
Looks like a nice venue, though, might be worth a look next time. |

Another one I haven't been to before, although I have no excuses really as it's not that far. I recognise several of those cars as South Essex show regulars.
