This makes good reading.

Could have serious consequences if this goes through.

The way I interpret it Dave is that if you have a pre 1960 MOT exempt car and put in a modern engine or alloy wheels ( which many owners do ) then it would cease to be a historic vehicle and have to undergo an annual test. Modifying it in any way would make it cease to be a historic car. Maybe I am reading it wrong as there are that many different sections to digest. A regular on our show circuit is an immaculate mk1 Consul....with chrome wheels. So to qualify for non MOT the car would have to be original.....I think. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

What about Replicars, Kit cars, and all the trade/services etc. that might be made redundant.
But I can see the reasoning
Pre 60's registrations MOT exempt
????
I can see some being not too pleased.

Then again if you can customise your car like that £50 is neither here nor there for an MOT. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

We know that, as do 99% of the owner enthusiast, but we are talking about the EU here.
Another one that would come under there ban would be 'Riley Blue' one of our members cars being talked about here - Riley541's car
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12424&start=15
And a good few others on here, or not.
What about stainless exhausts, wheel changes to enhance the looks to an owners liking.
The list could go on
I think we should do like the French, if it goes ahead the benchwarmers in Westminster should give it the finger, but we know how brave they are.
Just hope common sense prevails, |

A load of stupid nonsense, Malta is in the EU as well so probably by time it'll hit us too!!!!
Life is getting more and more difficult for us car enthusiasts!!
I'll admit to prefer a standard car but a bit of lowering and some aftermarket wheels are not gonna hurt anyone!!
Even retro fitted engines are nice though not for me but how boring would it be if all cars where all standard and sameish at the shows!!!
If this only implies that the car must have an mot if modified and not if standard, its not a problem but I am unsure whether its only that!!! |

I agree! It probably means that you have to have an example crash tested before it can be used on the public roads.

Maybe not Peter but what it might mean is more testing (which mean more dosh lining pockets) or even worse making modified cars illegal, something similar to what is actually enforced in belgium and france already!!
On a personal note, probably my minis with aftermarket wheels and period bucket seats, disc brakes etc (which mods actually make them better to drive and safer than the standard drum brakes all round) are listed as non standard therefore illegal!!!
This is somewhat stupid!!
But its not gonna be the first or even the last stupid thing from the EU!! |
