A bit bland don`t you think.?
There are far better 1950`s caravans with a bit of character.

Very true, but its quite a rare beast, not many Coronations around and they were made very well. _________________ I can resist anything except temptation ! ( Oscar Wilde)

this thread, like so many others that have a link to a set of photos, is practically useless to us once the sale is ended for that item... useful reference material is now vanished into the ether, where we once could see things. please reconsider simply linking to obscure sites and actually post a picture or two... _________________ nothing is ever so far gone as to be unsalvageable. see this bolt?..... |

Here we go, i thought the idea of this forum was to discuss vintage /classic caravan related items not to have a pop because you cannot work out how to follow a link
Why not post some interesting pics of your own ? after all your from a country with a wealth of caravaning history,
As for the Eccles Question , the company was sold by bill Riley in Aug 1960 to Sam Alper
This information is contained in a new book on caravan history called
The little book of caravans , its by the caravan club, and a good little book get it ISBN 978-1-907803-42-0

At least someone is highlighting the existence of the listing for everyone's benefit. Ideally I suppose someone would save copies of the images and build a reference archive with them, accessible to all maybe.

Yes it might be useful to provide a link to an advert but then again as the person quoted "It is lost forever".
If I like the look of something on an internet site I save a few pictures in my photo album for future reference.
It is so easy to do now with the internet...not so much fun a few years back when I only had the "Browny Box Camera " to archive my material and a trip to Boots for the processing.

Thanks for the tip!
I usually save the pics off ebay if there is something interesting. Not many pixels in them though
As you say, the UK must be a goldmine for caravan and camping related things. A few years ago I won a book off of ebay. Early caravanning book from 1907. There was another interested party which made the book quite expensive by the time I got it. The -party- turned out ot by CC as they were 100 years old at this time (2007). I´ve scanned the book which is a very good read. There is a little section devoted to -self propelled- vans. Steam I think. The author thought there was no future in any type of van that didn´t use a horse at the front
I can post up a few sides if there is interest. I´ve been collecting caravan brochures etc here in Sweden for about 20 years or so. Most british makes were sold here as there was a good market for them here in the 60s. I thought a bit more would be posted up by our enthusiasts in UK, but I can put up a few things occasionally..... |

sorry about the blowup but it is rather frustrating to see a tempting title and find a dead link behind it... sort of like finding something behind a skirt which does not belong there! sooooo many forums have this issue, not just here. and, i was not aware of a way to see the original post. again, sorry about the blowup. _________________ nothing is ever so far gone as to be unsalvageable. see this bolt?..... |

No need to appologise. I understand what you mean... very frustrating to find that the info has been removed or photobucket has thrown a wobbler and the actual pic is not available. That´s why I´m not too fond of the system on here. Try to keep all my stuff on the external hard drive I have, anything from the net gets copied if it´s allowed-ok to do so. |

Just bought the book. 8 pounds incl postage I would like to do something like this but from a swedish angle. They were very inventive in the 50s and 60s. Not just caravans but camping generally. Roof tents, sleeping in the car and all sorts of tents. I had a thought about having a camping museum in the old barn I had but I don´t have the funds to get it going and a divorce stopped it dead in it´s tracks (ex´s relatives own the barn). I think caravan culture is interesting to about 1980. After that it got all micro wave and better standard than home. All the vans look pretty much the same. At least over here. Pic of a SMV from 78. Not much doing after that.... cut off point The old van in the back is the one I own from 1949
