Folks, my pal has a 1967 Morris LDM30W van, the engine has suddenly expired and fears it has siezed. It is very likely that a replacement engine will be required.
Any local contacts in the vicinity of Diss/Stowmarket/Ipswich/ Bury St Edmunds areas who would be able to repair the engine urgently.

Would your friend not consider unseizing and repairing his existing engine?

Peter

I would strip it down. Maybe its dropped a valve. We had LD vans in the Post Office and never had any serious engine problems.

Don't forget that even if all goes to plan stripping, possibly machining and rebuilding an engine takes time, which could be of the essence.

Looks like the engine is beyond sensible repair apparently. I have not seen it myself but they say a REPLACEMENT ENGINEis sought.
So a 2.2lt engine from a Austin A70 or Gypsy. Leads please.

I think if you fit a much more powerful engine the next problem will be the rear axle.

The 2.2 was fitted to the Gypsy, the FGK30/S200, some FX3 and 4's amongst other vehicles as well as the LD range so I would imagine that there are some still around. One of the best power units used by BMC at that time, I must have rebuilt dozens of them over the years both in petrol and diesel form.

Pete.
