Looks like a German Army M1935 SD uniform.

Its one of those photos where you add a funny comment.....It does look German though.

Can't be many cars with headlight / wings like those

Might be German as the wings / headlights look like Horch, not found a good image yet.

Me thinks that Rick has a more detailed version of this photo, but didn't want to influence our ideas by showing more of the vehicle.

There seems to be little doubt that we have a qualified engine mechanic, a two handed umbrella holder and an undercover operative.

The little that I know about German uniforms is, they were tightly cut so as to give a slimmer and fitter look. The jackets tended to be shorter and the belts were worn higher to give the illusion of being taller.

yes there is more of the car on display in the original photo, I'm wondering if it was commandeered by the Germans on the Channel Islands (the photo doesn't show the reg. plate alas).

My parents were one of many that evacuated the Channel Islands (Jersey) just before the occupation.

Hundreds of vehicles were abandoned by islanders and although there are stories that some were drained of oil and left running or distributors and rotor arms were thrown into the sea, it seems more likely that vehicles were driven as close to the harbour as possible and then just abandoned.

The occupying Germans demanded that all, firearms, cameras and radio sets be handed over, and camera film became rare. Although I know that not everyone complied. A few vehicles were hidden away, but myth and actuality has become somewhat blurred.

Maybe the full photo will reveal more, particularly anything written or printed on the back of the photo. The actual size of the photo and any border may also help identify the film stock.

The uniforms don't look German to me. Perhaps we could see the full photo?

This is my view.

1930's British Officers.

1 Button below belt 3 above.
Leather belt with exposed buckle
Collar same color as uniform
Side pockets straight at top

Nearest to camera with umbrellas, folds in pants may suggest breaches.

British car, Standard (Rick)

oh, and it is raining, so taken in England LOL.
