If you have been to a LVRO office recently you may have seen posters announcing the closure of all Local Vehicle Registration Offices next year.
What do you think about this?
My view is that the move to closure is ill thought out. I have always found staff at my LVRO office in particular to be most helpful and go out of their way to be of assistance.
I cannot but help thinking that the closures will be open invitations to naughty dealings and even fraud by the ill intentioned. At my local office the officer who used to examine vehicles whether they were for registration number transfers, RFL enquiries or whatever was a time served expert who could sense any wrongdoing.
What will it be like doing everything "on line" in future?
All the staff I have talked with recently are dismayed by the move but agreed that future wrongdoing will be easier although, clearly, none would voice their opinions publicly.
Have you tried phoning the DVLA directly recently?
I had to a week or so ago only to go through the option 1,2.3 + for what appeared to be long minutes only to to be informed that the department I wanted was closed temporarily and "please try again".
Your opinions, please. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

What would happen if you didnt have a computer and a lot of people dont. You would never get anything done. And that doesnt just apply to the DVLA. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

We changed our bank recently from one that was internet only to a traditional local bank. The reason was that dealing over the internet is fine for all the standard stuff, but as soon as there is a requirement that is none standard its a nightmare....there is no IVR option for your problem so you select the "For everything else" but they don't have a script for your particular query etc etc
I presume the DVLA must be keeping some local staff (working from home?) to deal with things like imports?

I did hear something about *some* functions being given to post offices, someone's idea seems to have been that it would make them up for the eventual loss of pensions, benefits and so on as the gradual abolition by stealth of the post office network continues. It won't work like that of course, and it's hard to imagine what someone at the post office could do effectively anyway. Still, I daresay it makes sense if you're an idiot poshboy with piles of money who would only ever buy new top of the range motors anyway... |
