Fitted one to my rover 75 tourer a couple of weeks back, it hasn't been cold enough for it to start yet(runs below 5 degrees). but if it works okay, I will be looking at getting a remote for mine. Good luck with the fitting.

after watching that, the first thing that pop's into my mind is 'flat battery' surely it runs off the battery?
can just imagine....on a frosty morning the car won't start due to a flat battery and the owner saying "yeah but its lovely and warm inside" Laughing Laughing Laughing

They cost 10000 Danish kroner = 1092 GB pounds.

That is without the tele module (remote control) which is another 260 pounds (Danish prices)

I paid 240 pounds for the heater, and the tele module, with remote controller.

Here is a link to the UK website = http://www.webasto.co.uk/home/en/html/homepage.html

you can probably find the UK prices on it (you can on the Danish)

Ha ha Laughing yes that can happen, this is why you only programme it to run for 30 min, and no longer.

Its wired to the cars fan, which is set on lowest speed.

I got one of these bad boys for free http://www.varta-automotive.com/index.php?id=100

Its a 70 amp model, so it should be up to the job Cool

An intriguing piece of equipment.

To combat the rather cool winters here, when it can hover around the -35C for weeks, then suddenly get really cold, the standard issue are engine block heaters and sometimes transmission heaters. The engine heaters come as standard. Because we have 110V, it makes plugging in and out a little safer than with 240V. Works and public car parks very often have rows of electrical outlets.

Command (remote) starting is also very popular. Typical aftermarket unit including installation is between $300 and $500. Our latest Dodge crossover has factory command that uses the on board computer to control the temperature, on hot days, it turns on the air con'.
We don't have to remember to set the heat/ac controls, when it is cold. the remote, turns on the rear window and mirror defrost. Puts the air onto the screen and side window vents, and turns on the seat heaters.

If it is hot, the air, and seats go to cold.

All we need now is to teach it to go to the gas station on its own.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a sump heater for the truck, the kit comes with a pad that you glue to the bottom of the sump, the idea being you connect it to the mains 30 mins or so before start-up, and the oil gets around much quicker when starting from cold.

The 3/4 ton has two heaters bonded to the sides of the transmission, they are wired into the same circuit as the engine heater and switched by remote control.
They are fitted to the side only to protect them from physical damage. The 3/4 ton is not used that much during the winter, sometimes only moved to allow snow clearing.

Plus the engine turns MUCH easier = less power needed, which is good,
as the battery "juice" goes down when its cold.

Was using an Eberspächer equivilent in the late 80's

You could get a back up battery to run it from, and with an electric set up it can be charged with the main battery.

Hi

Just put a table lamp under the sump for an hour before going out.....

Surprising how much heat they give out, one lamp in a steam boiler will keep it warm all winter.

Cheers

Dave
