I have been watching this on YouTube. Surely the cars get serious damage to chassis and body flexing from it. That's apart from the obvious strain on everything else, including the driver and passengers.
It does look amazing fun and certainly gets the cars used and makes sure that they are mechanically fettled rather than being ornaments to take out on a sunny day. But WOW, I would need deep pockets and a lot of nerve to do this.

Most cars don't get trashed, they just get used as originally intended. Occasionally things break, but I guess things fall into disrepair by standing too, so on balance I don't think too much harm is done, especially where there is good parts supply for the car in question - hence the popularity of Austin 7s and Model A Fords in vintage trialling.
I do remember whincing when a vintage Vauxhall demolished its crownwheel and pinion in front of us years ago though

That's why the M8 would be ok, there is nothing rare about any of the components.
Do any forum members compete in trials? or are you aware if there is a class for "post veteran pre war!"

I'd have thought local-area motor clubs, or clubs affiliated to particular trials venues, might have a class (I don't think the VSCC does). Maybe http://www.btrda.com/Car_Trials/ have a class for pre-war cars at their events?
