I know it's a long shot but I wonder if anyone has any spare Lucas dash board knobs, the mushroom shaped pull knobs fitted to BMC cars in the 50s and 60s. I know repro news are available but I'm looking for Bakelite ones.

Do you have any pictures of what you're looking for? some have text on, others are blank iirc.

Like the ones in this picture in the corners, one marked F, one marked R and one plain. These were standard on many British cars in the 50s especially Austin Morris Group cars. I am trying to find one marked S for Spot and one marked H for Heater. I've seen that Holden sell repro items but I expect they are plastic not Bakelite and will not match the rest of the dash. Smile

These guys claim to have original Lucas items. May be worth contacting them?

They've certainly got the right 'looking' switch on their web site, can't tell if it's original stock but worth contacting - thanks.

Those are the same as fitted to 948cc Morris Minors I think. Might be worth trying some Minor specialists?

I know what you mean about the repro ones; I have them for my MGA and they look far to smooth and shiny.

You'll be struggling to get an original "H" one. They were usually fitted to rheostat switches, and the resultant heat makes the Bakelite go brittle and crack off round the hole for the grub screw. In the case of Riley RMs, the same applies to the P for panel lights. They were rheostat-controlled; Riley forsaw a problem with driver dazzle, which is a joke as you have to shine a torch onto the panel lights to see if they are on or not.
I sell Riley RM spares and so have loads of the F , S, and L ones, but the only P and H ones I have I am keeping for my own vehicles.

Are RM knobs not brown rather than black?

I won't do Rich. Early RMs used black knobs but not on the Starter or Spotlights - they were rotating Lucas switches until 1949 when the brown ones took over.

Thanks Ashley and others, I've bought a couple of original blank ones from eBay and may try to get them engraved with the characters I require.
