The government now lets me use my old car for free. Since I have calculated that with care and a bit of luck it will last ME forever without any serious problems, I have decided to use it more often. I have vowed that all local journeys, such as the five mile potter today to see my architect about our new house, will be done as far as possible in the 1935 Austin.
It really seems to brighten up the day for everyone...especially for me. It's great to see it with the hood down on November 26th in Sainsbury's car park.
Is anyone else a nearly daily driver? |

Back in the 80/90s we used our Austin 10/4 as a second car. Now I have trouble getting in and out of the Sprite it will be pressed back into service. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. Hi Pigtin,
Sorry to hear you have "mobility issues" and I hope you still get some use out of that Sprite.
Between about 1983 and 1994 I used two different 1938 Austin Tens as proper daily transport. Between 1989 and 1994 I travelled 12 miles each way to work daily in THE HIGHLANDS OF SCOTLAND. Even I think I must have been mad. I soon realised why old cars had windscreens that open.
I don't plan to be that extreme again but I will be known as that man with the old car around these parts. |

| Prior to starting the resto, my Morris Traveller was used daily for local stuff. It was just the job for carrying Herself's mobility scooter and the dogs, a job now done by our Volvo 850 estate. But without the fun................. |

Only the one car, and a bus pass,(not used yet)
Shops only a couple of miles walk.
But the DLM gets used at all other times, even in the rain. |

I dont use mine on a regular basis but it is always on the road all year if I need it. If I had an older car I would be wary about leaving it parked anywhere in case it gets damaged . Its always the other driver you have to be wary of. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Try and use one of the fleet all year round. Currently the Wolseley 1100 .
The A40 was my only car for many years. Now used mainly in good weather. _________________ Keef - Sheerness Kent UK

I don't have a modern car, so I have to use classics in all weathers, all year round. Current everyday motor is my 1959 Austin A35, everything else is tucked up for the winter now, although my '58 A35 will come out for a bit of exercise if we get any dry days with no road salt.
The Atlantic probably won't come out until the spring now, and both Cambridges are SORNed. My A55 MK2 will be for sale soon. _________________ Richard Hughes |

| My landcrab is my daily driver. Moggy used when no salt on road. I also use an old Merc when it is perishing cold and I need an effective heater!! I don't own a modern car. Have 2 power wheelchairs though and use them every day to go the 1 mile to city centre shops |

My 1962 Series 2a Land Rover is taxed, MOT'd and insured all year and used frequently although I tend to use it only for short local trips.
I did use it every day until recently and it is parked outside in all weathers.

Mine are used all year but not everyday. If I only required a car for mainly local trips I would consider ditching the modern, but often for work have much longer journeys, for example yesterday I had a client meeting in Hatfield; a 360 mile round trip, early start, late return!
For something like this length of journey in the dark, wet and cold , where I need to arrive "chilled out I want my modern with its reliability, comfort and gadgets!

Don't have any modern cars - Triumph is outside in all weathers & does about 3,000 miles a year regardless of time of year. Zephyr is insured all year but not used too much during winter but still does between 2 & 3.000 miles - roll on the ...summer???? Cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible
