Nasty.
I wouldn't have thought the lamp post should go over like that, in those circumstances - maybe it's rotten at the base, in which case he could have a claim against the council. Not that it's any consolation, even if the car is fixable it's only right once |

The police attended and got the driver - a car full of "youths" - perhaps a stolen?
As to lampost it was concrete over 40 years old but they do not bend or rot like modern steel columns which are not mounted on edge of pavements either these days
Ironically lampost made at Stanton & Staveley Steel works and spun pipes in iron and concrete now long gone but a major employer of 1000's then and only 2 miles away.
Might have been less damage if Peueut had just run into the back of the car rather than the lampost

Or on pavements, kids on scooters and mums pushing buggies can do more damage than passing vehicles - and they're not insured. |

Surely not if you are just fixing your own car. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Yep I agree; I wouldn't leave my pride & joy on the pavement; possibly this chap had no option?
From the pics, the car does look repairable, but the insurance company may deem it uneconomical , then it’s a case of buying it off them and organising the repairs independently, he may possibly profit from the sorry affair..every cloud..

I would have thought if he's parked on the pavement he's breaking the law.
I thought If your breaking the law the insurance is nul and void. |

More likely he will lose a lot out of this, probably insured it saying he bought it off a mate for £500 and didn't mention the updates to get a cheap policy (who hasn't?).
Could possibly claim off the council by claiming the light wasn't structurally sound as it fell to earth after a ding which might not have been too much of an impact if the other car managed to drive away. |

Fortunately neither the Borough or County Council are interfering ones - hence parking on the pavement!
The lamp post will be replaced in due course with a new steel column set well back from pavement edge too _________________ Rover P2

It is not a criminal offence to drive on a public footpath.
What is that you say.!!!
I had a meeting with my local councilors, council engineers, council legal team etc etc.
The problem was people concreting over their gardens and driving over the grass verges ,over the footpath onto their new drives.
The lovely old grass verges near the old village pond were getting into a right ol state and i thought I had better put on my Victor Meldrew hat and sort it out.
The only way around the matter is to put down double yellow lines outside the offenders houses. Then the legal team have a little power, but admitted that there was no money in the kitty to take the offenders to court.
They have since carried out shrub planting and put down open paving so the grass grows through at my badgering of them.
The thing is it took many years to get this done,so offenders know they can get away with things for a long time.
