I could not find the old post on this one. The cheapest unleaded where I live is at Morrisons at £1.29.9 per litre. Our local Tesco has not had any prices up for 3 weeks....wonder why. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Our local Tesco tried that one too. It might not be exactly deliberate, but if the sign gets damaged by wind or whatever, I've noticed they're non too keen to get it fixed. Cheer up though, it's a long time since I've seen it as low as 129.9 anywhere round here, Waitrose in Abergavenny was 133.9 last week and that's normally one of the cheaper ones |

Diesel at local Asda is £136.9, i had a Tesco voucher for 10p off a litre. Went to Tesco to fill up, and found diesel £1.44! So i saved about £6 on my fill up, but without the voucher it would have been more expensive than Asda. I thought the supermarkets were trying to compete on price, but maybe Tesco aren't bothering.
At least the chancellor has scrapped the January duty rise. I wonder though, what happened to the fuel price stabiliser that Cameron was talking of introducing? |

Diesel at Tesco Chesterfield has been at 140.9 for the past week, it's 139.9 at Morrisons Chesterfield and we paid 137.9 at Morrisons Mansfield last week.
http://www.petrolprices.com/ is usually up to date. |

I had a look at that website for Airdrie £1.29.7. I would imagine that would be Morrisons as that is the only big petrol station. I was just thinking that they lowered it in anticipation that fuel costs would rise in the mini budget which it didnt. So I wonder if it will go back up to £1.33 shortly. I will keep an eye on it. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

The average MP will put in an expense claim if he goes to the loo. Once in Parliament you will never have to buy an ounce of petrol with your own money. How can we expect them to know how much it hurts a family needing to travel to work. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. Morrisons are still £129.9 and others are following suit. Why does it have to be the supermarkets who are dropping their prices . If it wasnt for them we would still be up at £1.35 or more. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

| I dunno about that, I have an idea supermarkets are in fact holding fuel prices artificially high so they can get people in for groceries with "spend £XX in store get YYp off per litre of fuel" type offers. OK if you do big shops and have a large tank to fill but annoying when you don't and think how much less the standard fuel price could be without the promotions. Let's face it, these shysters don't give anything away - not really. |

But supermarket prices are lower than BP..ESSO..JET and SHELL, so surely the supermarkets are keeping the price down and you get more off your fuel per litre when you spend XX amount on groceries. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Tesco has a spend £50 and get a 5p a litre off offer at the moment. Probably explains why they're 1p a litre more expensive than other filling stations locally.
What's the betting that when the offer ends the price will drop. |

Currently $1.05 CDN or .66p GBP per litre. But still slightly more expensive than USA. We paid $3.87 US, per gallon, in Nevada last week.
10 years ago gas/petrol here was 60c CDN a litre, it rose to $1.32 last year so 1.05 isn't that bad. |

But they know you expect them to be more expensive, and often these days operate where there isn't any supermarket competition - so they get away with it. If margins on fuel were as tight as many would have us believe, how could the supermarkets afford to drop so much off the price just because someone's had a few groceries off them?
A workmate of mine ran his own filling station in a small town before the recession and the tales he tells... caribbean holidays, his & hers Jags, you name it. He was making plenty of money on fuel sales until the banks pulled the plug on his debts and no doubt the rest still are. |
