There have been quite a few programmes on political figures on BBC 4 recently including profiles of politicians Harold Wilson and Edward Heath in particular.

The programme on Wilson and Heath showed them driving their everyday cars and I thought it would be interesting to have a look at the motoring choices of ALL types of celebrity.

I'll start with the following :

Harold Wilson - Consul Classic 4 door.

Edward Heath - Vauxhall Victor FB two tone and later a Vauxhall Viva HB 4 door.

Lord (David) Steele owned a Mark 9 Jaguar in the 1990s.

President Bill Clinton owns a 1967 Ford Mustang now in an Arkansas museum.

President Ronald Reagan enjoyed driving his Willys Jeep on his California farm.

Lord (Geoffrey) Howe owns an early Triumph Vitesse in two tone yellow and white.

There are surely many, many more, so, over to you all.

Where do I start with Riley? Lord Louis Mountbatten owned several Rileys including RMBs and Pathfinder and had his own two-tone blue/blue paint scheme. Lord David Steele rallied a Riley 1.5, Enid Blyton owned a RME and lots of stars of stage and screen owned Rileys.

David Cameron used to own a Fiat 500 which he bought for his wife, it went to auction recently and got some silly price.

Jet Black (Stranglers drummer) used to own a Ford Fiesta with a lot of spotlights on it, apparently prompting someone to ask (from a safe distance, presumably) whether he towed a trailer with extra batteries in it.

David Steel also owned an Austin Gipsy, and I believe was still a member of the Gipsy register until recently, and Winston Churchill had a series one Land Rover.

The Rolling Stones used to own a Ford Pilot (KAR 365 I believe) back in the 1960's, it was repainted purple and had alloy 'cycle' wings front and rear. I came across them broken down in it at Lower Early near Reading when out cycling and sat watching them trying to repair it, that is until one of them told me to 'f' off' so that is what I duly did! Laughing
I also remember Noel Edmonds driving his Ford GT 40 in Reading.

Pete.

I can think of three celebrities who owned Jaguar Mark 2s :

The Duke of Kent had several one after the other which he used to collect new from Browns Lane.

Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus, used a Mark 2 as daily transport in the 1960s.

Tom Wakinshaw, founder of TWR, had a modernised one from either Vicarage or Beacham.

When the Inspector Morse series came to an end, John Thaw was offered the red and black vinyl roof 2.4 Mark 2, 246 RPA, as a gift. He refused having once said that "....it was a b****r to drive."

Diana Dors had the most beautiful Delahaye that a rich admirer bought for her when she first started out, she didn't even drive at the time.

Diana Dors also owned several Cadillacs. One of them a pink '59 convertible, according to the stories, was scrapped near here as the result of a dispute between two local car dealers.
