Very Happy Anyone out there got experience of importing a classic car of UK origin from Australia to the UK. I`ve done it from Canada and US so familiar with UK rules but what about Australian bureaucracy. Difficulties and costs. Thanks Very Happy

Did it almost 10 years ago. Find yourself a good shipping agent who is used to dealing in such matters, they will fill out all the relevant paperwork and sort everything out and all you do is sign on the dotted line.

Make sure you obtain as much proof of original age from the vendor, the DVLA like lots of paperwork and it makes taxing in this country much easier.

I brought a trio of utes from Oz in 2006 out of Sydney, all quite easy really once I'd made contact with the shipping agent over there.

If I'd done that the question would have been asked "but why do you need 3" Rolling Eyes Laughing

I only started out with a plan for one, but one thing led to another.... with the first ute readied for collection, another dismantled example turned up so it seemed like a good idea to get it at the same time, as it was local to no.1.

While those two were stored for several weeks in a field near Sydney, news of a very original ute found advertised in a farming newspaper came through. Again it was local-ish. All it required was a slightly larger container, so it seemed daft to not try for it too. In the end it was the third that I hung on to, the others sold to raise funds for a certain large green machine.

Very Happy Thanks for the responses. Shipping agent understood. Paper work for Heritage cert. understood. However had heard rumour that Australians added an export tax/duty. Is that just a story?

Not that I remember, but you will have to pay an import duty this end, I think it was around 3% when I brought mine in

Thanks 47p2. Yes regarding import duty- last one I did last year was 5% - could be called inflation or a good earner for the Government. Chassis number and engine number normally keeps them happy. As I said its just what the Australian Government want out of our pockets. Very Happy

Duty you pay here depends on the vehicle's age, its "historical significance" (if applicable) and also whether it was originally shipped from here when new - ie returning home. Vehicle type - car or pickup for instance - can also have an effect on more recent vehicles being imported.
