Are there many steam cars around as I dont recall ever seeing one at any classic events up here. Are there any companies making steam cars for sale or are they not made anymore..Just wondered.

There is (or was?) a rally for steam cars where they toured around Britain and visited various rallies etc on route. I have encountered them several times over the years, most of them were made by Stanley but there were other types on parade!

Pete.

I stand corrected having just found said pamflet.
The red car is a Babcock Electric.
I am looking for another steam car of similar design, I think.

I've seen a working 'coffin-nosed' Stanley at the Biggar Show, but that was a while ago, perhaps 4 or 5 years.

And there's a Stanley 735 on display in the Riverside Museum, but sadly its a non-running static exhibit.

Thanks for posting the pictures Roger. I honestly have never seen one before. They look great. I must dig out my old videos of the Biggar rally and have a look.

There was a restored Stanley doing the local shows a couple of years ago but I haven't it recently.

I believe the last commercially produced steam car was the Doble in the mid thirties

The green one looks like a hacked up Morgan 3 wheeler. Say no more .

I do have some photos of a steam powered tractor that I can make copies of...if I can find them. I think they were in a Popular Mechanics. Contact me and I will see what I can do.

That very Green one, nearly gives me a coronary when at Rallies, I will be driving an engine, maybe 10 or more ton around the ring, when next thing, he zooms through a tiny gap in front of you, never had contact yet, but a few scares.

It is quite a fast machine though!

Cheers
