The old Audi in the new Audi advert with Danny Kaye singing Ugly Duckling.

The 'thing' was designed in 1920 by Paul Jaray, one of the most innovative car designers of all time, particularly with regard to streamlining. For example, the Audi type K reached a speed of 95 km/h with standard body, with a Jaray designed body it reached 130 km/h. His designs (not just for Audi) were decades ahead of their time.

It might have been streamlined, but it was pig ugly yet some of the streamliners of that ear were stunning. Figoni and Falaschi for example.

Were Figoni and Falaschi designing in 1920?

Saw that Audi 'in the metal' at the NEC. Brilliant design and bigger than I expected but f'ugly for sure!

Classics on TV ads? Nice BMW 6 Series on one of the supermarket ads. (can't remember which one, perhaps Waitrose.)

Can't agree with the Audi, I think the A5 coupe is a lovely shape for a modern car. Pity about all the electrical stuff though. I've seen the ugly duckling car, they're pretty good at lending out vehicles to Club Audi for display stands.

There was an ad for a Vauxhall MPV recently that had a series A Manta - I was hoping they might have put a Firenza in there, or maybe even a Viva, but no. And of course when they did the Mk4 (I think) Escort RS2000, they had a sequence with a Mk2 RS2000 being uncovered in a garage.

When the Metro was launched in 1981 the advert had a line up of Metros on the White cliffs of Dover probably to keep the opposition out. Laughing Laughing Laughing Some hope !!!

The Vauxhall adverts last Autumn showed their previous models - FB Victors and so on.

Quite good, really.

I saw a new Aviva advert today with a Cavalier and a Maestro. Not really classic but old never the less.

I agree, that "old" Audi in the ugly duckling add is dam ugly Shocked I do like the A5 Coupe..a clever add Very Happy , anyone who really prefers the former, probably shouldn't tell their partner!!!

Deviating fromm the thread slightly, you may remember a Shreddies advert with Leslie Philips , he was driving an MGA. and I think there was a Morris J van as well?

Back on the thread, I remember the Peugeot 405 add from the 80's as it used contemporary music of the time (Berlin), as a youngster then it got my attention Very Happy

I always remember with amusement that a a Renault (5?) advert used the music "Takes your breath away" and that years later an anti-pollution (or was it smoking?) advert used the same tune.

Hi Jim, I think you are thinking of the Pug 405 add (see my previous post for the link) "take my breath away" the Berlin song from Top Gun. As a student i had a poster of Terri Nunn Very Happy , forgot about that until this post!
