hi my 1st post so be gentle.

I am looking for a coating for the nuts, bolts and washers on the car i am restoring. I have experimented with a blacking solution from 'Frost' I really like the results, a dull black, it looks well with the gloss black chassis and other parts.
What I don't know is the long tern corrosion resistance of this coating, and if it is not up to the job what can you recommend?
many thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome

If the Frost kit produces a black oxide coating, its a Bluing process, commonly used on guns. Its more decorative than protective, as any gun owner will tell you, lightly oiling the whole gun is part of routine maintenance, to prevent rust forming.

Zinc plating was used on many small components. I am thinking of buying a kit to do some nuts.

Regards Kels.

I did think of zinc but it is a bit bright for my liking, I think I will fix a 'blacked' nut and bolt to the underside of my daily driver and keep and eye on it to see how it stands up to winter roads.

Blued guns corrode rapidly if they get damp,it's a decorative process not really a protective one.

+1 for home plating.

It does tend to become somewhat all-consuming if you have OCD tendencies though!
