This new series looks as if its going to be as good as the last one. Isnt Michael Portillo a great narrator .He is a breath of fresh air on this programme and is as good as Michael Palin.

Hi
If you mean the series on BBC 2, it is series 4, they are reshowing series 1 currently on BBC4 as well.

I posted this the other day on the rail section thread.
Quote:
A new series of M Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys has just started BBC2 on iPlayer for 3 weeks.
BUT does anybody recpgnise the opening credit locations?
The second clip (with the blue train)has an airfield in it.
Might have been the same credits in the earlier series' but I didn't notice it then.
edit
Different opening credit in the second episode and the airfield showed in the closing credits.

Has anybody manged to ID the airfield yet?

The only thing Michael Portillo shares with Michael Palin is his initials. Until Portillo can forget he was a politician he'll never come close to Palin who easily manages to put whoever he's speaking to at ease - Portillo's chat technique is like that of a cobra.

He does wear some brightly coloured clothing like pink jackets and yellow shirts with black trousers and brown shoes...all at once. Cant imagine the wife letting me out looking like that. Laughing

Not so bad if he ever wears black trousers...that's half-way to normal. I observed that in the "Next" sale of all the rubbish they couldn't get rid of, I could have outfitted myself like a Portillo for a snip!

He has really laboured that "Bradshaws" to the point where you get sick of hearing it. He does get to some interesting locations but you find that he is often going over something that you have seen featured on a totally different programme in the past.
