In the early 90s when I was with the GPO 3 of us were invited along with other companies to a corporate night out run by Joseph Lucas and the guest speaker was John Lowe who was then the World darts champion and I was picked along with a few other to play him off 501.I didnt even get anywhere near a finish but what a gentleman he was and the after dinner speech was hilarious. I still have a scroll signed by him on the night. Cool Cool

Hi
I worked for while in a garage in Ashstead, Surrey one of our regular petrol customers was Maurice Smith Editor of either Motor or Autocar (I forget which) he used to come in to fill up lots of different cars.
In particular I remember filling an XKSS and also an DB4 Aston Martin Zagato .

A few. Sean Connery at a party in London in the 60s though only to exchange 'hellos', the women were all over him. Most of the rest were racing drivers - James Hunt springs to mind. We spent ten minutes chatting, great chap.

Various minor celebs - Angela Rippon, Roy Castle, Ronnie Corbett and others I can't remember.

The question immediately springs to mind "Extending Larry's question; are you a celebrity?"

I've met a few people in order to get their scribble on a piece of paper/programme/book cover, but I'm not sure that counts as "met" exactly.

Sir David Steel has had a long involvement with classic cars and a couple of years ago he interviewed me when I drove my car around the ring at the Thirlestane show. At that time he encouraged me to participate in the subsequent Jaguar Drivers Club Annual Rally that he had helped organise and I ended up sitting opposite to him at the dinner that concluded the rally.

Tom Baker opened a small classic car show in Maidstone some years ago.
Very large impressive looking guy, and extremely pleasant. He came round and chatted to the exhibitors.

Well my Mum thought I was special...

I penned a few words in the motoring press in the past, mostly about VAG cars and motorsport so the occasional rubbing of shoulders with celebrities went with the job.

Living, and grew up, in Belsize park, Hampstead one got to meet a lot of film and TV members.
'Our Gang' were mostly with TV and film, crews and backroom, the mate I got the DLM from in 1970/1 was a TV backroom boy on props and models, so when he told me the DLM was made for Dr. Who I thought maybe,

Met a lot of TV and film stars in the local pubs, lived around the corner from Peter Sellers, used to drink with Bob Hoskins when he was starting in TV, educational comedy series, 'on the move'
another regular was Ronald Frazer, to put it mildly not the easiest to get on with

Met Lt. Col Colin Campbell Mitchell while I was working at VW St Johns wood, he was a lot smaller than expected but still a gentleman.

Another at 'the wood' was Rita Webb, the place would empty when she turned up with her 3 or 4 bouncers, language even a marine would flinch at, and you could hear her coming half a mile away.

But in them days all of them were no different to you or me just doing a different job, and not always guaranteed work.
