You need to add HMV to the list now, we still used them in line as I hated going through all the shelves looking for something but I still like to buy a cd not download _________________ 1968 Volvo Amazon estate (Gracie)

| The Metal Box (tin can manufacturers) here in Worcester is closing. Opened in the early 30's, employed over 2000 people in the 60's, various owners have have run it down until it employed 130. Now its closing as uneconimical to run, but the land will be worth millions for housing. Another example of make a short term profit now for a few and don't think about tomorrow. |

| Let's not forget that clothes shopping is often going to be easier in a shop than by post. Parcels turn up while you're out. Things turn out to be nothing like the picture or description. Manufacturer's "standard" clothing sizes are often anything but standard (we'll shave a bit off this year, save some money and nobody will ever notice...). I remember when I was a wee boy back in the 80's my mum used to buy clothes from catalogues and a good 3/4 of them - maybe more - would be sent back because they were the wrong size/colour/whatever, and that's not going to be any different now. |

I think we have to accept that retailing is changing and unless the High Street adapts then most of it will close.
It is encouraging that some gurus are setting out the model for survival insofar as they suggest that the retail stores become more like resource centres which actually support internet sales. Also that town centres contribute to the positive experience of shopping. Sounds good to me!
Add the ingredient that councils must reform from being money grabbing crooks and start giving traders good value for the rates they pay.
You never know, our town centres may still have some life left in them. |

I think that some of the furniture stores will be next. £750 beds for £250. How long can they keep that up. There are too many carpet stores as well. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |
