This question came through yesterday, and I thought was interesting enough to warrant a thread about it!! does anyone have some suggestions for a 70s convertible, suitable for the taller person??? I did suggest the 70s SL Mercedes as a possible alternative to a Snag...if ukdave reads this, perhaps he could give his opinion on Stags, as he has one!

-----

To whom it may concern

I have been toying with the idea of getting a convertible fo rthe
summer. It is something I've hankered after for some time now, and my
wife and I are talking about having children soon, so if I don't do it
now, chances are, I never will.

I have looked at several "modern" convertible, but nothing really
strikes me. Now, here's my dilemma. I am 6ft 7, and have no garage. I
think the old Alfa Spiders are achingly beautiful, and I have always
liked the Triumph Stag. My question though, is would I fit in them!?

With modenr cars one has the advantage of being able to visit show
rooms and sit in the cars, but alas no such facility exists for "older"
cars.

In your opinion, are there any cars, (around the 1970's), that are a)
affordable (max £7000), and b) that I could fit into?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Rick - you should tell the writer that the facility to try out classic cars exists every weekend at a classic car show, or even at an auction. If you talk to the owners first , most are more then happy to let you sit in their car.

We all seem to act as a saleperson for our particular model.

Hi there

Allow me to introduce myself. I am said "Tall Person", and as Rick has been kind enough to post my question here I thought it only polite to say hello.

Thanks for your reply Brian. I am aware of a few shows - I live in Bedfordshire, and have just missed a big one at Shuttleworth I think (I was on holiday), but I'm not too sure about many others. Is there such thing as a "listing" of shows up and down the country?

Also, thanks for the SL idea Rick, I had considered this too, and have found a couple of nice examples on Autotrader, on of which is here: http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_popup.jsp?nU=0&make=MERCEDES-BENZ&model=SL%20CLASS&min_pr=&max_pr=7000&postcode=LU5%206LT&miles=40&max_records=200&modelexact=1&photo=1&hassearched=Y&start=5&distance=32&adcategory=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200718283199849

I might need to do a bit of research me thinks.

Thanks again.

Wayne

Anyone know if I'd fit?

although a little later (80s), would something like an XJS convertible, or XJ-SC, fit the bill?

Regarding the Stag , my mate is 6' 3" and he fits in ok, you can alter the seat hight and take it quite far back, but you really nee d to sit in one to see if suits you, there are plenty around in classic car dealers, where you can try them and other cars, £7k would get you a decent Stag, I paid less than half that for mine.
