As a follow up to given a car for free have you ever gave one away for free.
In the early 90s the young lad across the road from me passed his test and I gave him a Mk1 Fiesta for free. He always used to come over and learn how to fix cars and I used to let him give me a hand. I always promised him I would get him a car when he passed his test, so I gave him the Fiesta. He now has his own garage and MOT station.
I have also given away the odd marina just to get rid of it
Its good to get something for nothing and equally as good to give it away for nothing.

I have just given a 1996 Discovery 300tdi to a friend.

I bought it in June last year for scrap value to get it's good diesel engine.
My friend has the same model but with a noisy gearbox and a worn clutch, he needs other parts as well.
He will remove the 300tdi engine for me and he gets the rest for free including a good gearbox and 3000 mile old clutch which was fitted in November 2011 by the previous owner.

Not too bad an agreement.

I haven't given a car away for free, except to a scrapyard when they were worth nothing; (or so they said).

I did once sell one at a giveaway price to a work colleague who was wearing me down pestering me to sell it.

What was it ? My first Fiat 500 back in 1983. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I have been asked on several occasions to find a good home gratis for the faithful family Riley. Not usually a problem given the wonderfully receptive RM Club members, who are ever willing to accept gratitude with humility and discretion.
Even decrepit heaps have a use with the growing number of members building a special.
The last one was a rebuilt & MoTd 2½ saloon; a good home was all that was required.

Except to scrapyards in the days when you got nowt I've never given a car away for free - though it's felt like it on a couple of occasions!

I donated the remains of an early 50s A40 Countryman to a pal of mine a few years ago (when I had Devons), to aid his van and Sports rebuilds.
