He was crowned in Westminster. Always was anortherner though. That was part of the trouble when he became king. The southerners didn´t like him and he was forced to put his northern allies in key posts in the south. Most of the south sided with the Lancastrians and the taffs. The only friend he had in the south was Norfolk, who turned out to be the only one who really fought for him at Bosworth. His other, so called, friends (notably the Percys Northumberland) refused to join battle when needed and disapeared north again. His main followers were from Yorkshire and especially York. There was a force on it´s way south from Yorkshire but he didn´t wait for it thinking Northumberland and the Stanleys would do what was expected. |

I must admit I like history. David Starkeys history of the monarchy is a great series.
According to the news it could take up to a year to get Richard interred. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Most skeletons that are discovered by archaeologists seem to be bundled into boxes for future investigation or put on display as objects of interest.
It is typical of the attitudes of society to have such a deeply ingrained reverence for the remains of this man, who no-one has ever seen or heard from, that we want to re-bury his remains in such a high status location.
Did you see the documentary? It was almost laughable when the very oddly emotional woman who seemed to lead the project covered the "shoe-box" containing "Richard's" remains with the flag which was his Royal Standard.
The box was then awkwardly placed amongst the tools and debris of a little white builders' type van.
It's all very interesting and commendable but I think these bones should be treated just as any other bones from commoners or chieftans that have been discovered since the science of archaology was invented. |

Noticed that too, and also the attitude of the "bone lady" who objected to the use of R3's standard, as it had not been proven that the bones were those of R3.
I thought the use of the standard was a nice respectful touch, totally wasted as he was put in the van. Even the rear of an estate car would have been better! _________________ Brian

| Why am I not suprised by you post. Why bury anybodies bones. Cremation would be best. I think that his man, whether king or not, has been mailigned all the way through the ages as being an ogre. If we find out that he wasn´t and was actually a patron for his country then why not give his remains a bit of a ceremony. The -emotional- lady in the programme (which I din´t see from where I live) has been campaigning for years to get at the truth. What´s wrong with that. She probably has quite a few -querks- haven´t you?? |

Quirks? Me? None? Apart from playing with scrap metal!
Alan, bury him if they want to, it's a (sort of) free country.
The point I'm making is why should these bones be any more special than any others.
I thought that we were all at least equal in death.
Seems I was wrong. |

If his last words were "A horse a horse!" it's best he be buried near a Hamburger Joint. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |

Why would he be a completely different person because his bones have been found.
Will he be giving an interview as to what he was like. |

Funnily enough I´m not a royalist, never have been. Why should the public pay for the restoration of Winsor castle when it burned (just one example) when Lizzie is one of the most wealthy people in the world. For me it´s just another piece of evidence that this bloke who did his best for his country has found some vindication. All the slanders against him mention that he was dismembered and his bits chucked in the river. We are all equal in death, that´s not the point as far as I´m concerned. The thing being that one of the most colourfull and dutyfull Kings we´ve had has finally on the way to getting some justice. For me it´s aprinciple, whether it´s about a soldier malighned from the second world war or a King from 500 years ago. The book will hopefully be set straight and we can all move on |
