| introducing myself as a new member courtesy of the Administrator; i'm originally from Virginia now living in South Carolina. longtime old car enthusiast; dating from my dad's Model A Fords when i was a small child. have owned well over a hundred and forty-odd cars and trucks of all kinds (it's getting easier to exclude the brands i haven't owned than to include the ones i have...) and although i'm Ford blue inside i still enjoy any kind of weird old car. i've even had two Cortinas; a mk1 and a mk2, along with several BL cars and a couple of Fiats, some BMW 2002's, and a couple of mercedes. i know that our system of model-year designation is out of sync with the mk system used more commonly over there, so i'll try to give specific information other than "1959" when describing any thing in particular. i work for a Volkswagen dealership in the parts department, and would welcome any queries towards things American that might come up. |

Hi
Welcome from me, have you any pictures of all of these cars you have owned in the past?
Cheers
Dave

unfortunately, buzzy, i don't have a digital camera and am inept with modern technology for the most part. as soon as i can get a digital i will post pics of my collection; from oldest to newest as follows:
1950 Plymouth Cambridge 4dr saloon, 6cyl flathead, 3spd manual, stock.
1959 Ford Fairlane Galaxie 500 4dr saloon, 352ci v8, 3sp auto, stock.
1963 Plymouth Valiant Signet 200 2dr hardtop, 225 ci 6cyl, 3sp auto, stock.
1962 Ford Falcon 2dr saloon. 5.0 v8, 3spd auto, modified.
1978 Ford Mustang II Rallye; 5.0 v8, 3spd auto, under restoration daily driver.
1980 Ford Mustang Hatchback; 200ci 6cyl, 3sp auto, wife's daily driver.
1979 Ford Econoline Van; 302 (5.0) v8, honking big workhorse.
always but ALWAYS subject to change (usually additions!)
sorry; no British equipment at this time; looking for a clean B though. |

i got my start on Brit cars reading Classic Cars magazine in the early '90's and went on to Classic and Sports Cars and Practical Classics. there's not much more available here that deals with actually owning, driving, and repairing cars like PC. our enthusiast mags are all about spending money not doing the work yourself, so they're not really about the enjoyment of the hobby itself as much as the cash return on sales.
my dad, who enjoyed restoring "A"s, remarked after reading a Classic Car article that the British enthusiast could "find a piece of badge in the dirt and reconstruct a car from that point." we are always amazed by the excellent results from arduous labours in the rebuilding of your projects. over here, the way it seems to get done is to send the hulk to a pro and write a cheque. the owner gets to stand around with a proud smile while the actual work was done by other parties. |
