They are OK. but do not expect them to last 10 years. You only get what you pay.

The same one was on sale in Lidl a few years ago for £6.99. At less than a tenner, does it matter if it doesn't last ten years? Just buy another.

BTW - it's also on offer for considerably more elswhere.

I would avoid those cheap digital ones, the display will pack up and then
you will have nothing....

Buy a non digital non dial one ~ will last you forever Cool

I moved from mechanical to digital veriers some years ago because of diminishing eyesight (through age!).
Yes the displays do fail on the cheapo verniers, and they don't like to work in the very cold weather, but while they are working they are accurate, and at around £5 each from Ebay I buy several at a time and only expect them to last around 6-12 months.

They certainly cover a good range of nut sizes but I find they tend to break if you apply much torque!

I used to have a quality conventional vernier but some one borrowed it and it disapeared. About a year ago I replaced it with a cheap Aldi one, I prefer to use a micrometer. About the same time a guy I work with bought a Moore and Wright digital vernier. He now borrows my Aldi one because it's more accurate

They often fail quickly because they come with cheap batteries which causes the symptom of the display failing. put a decent battery in and they will last a lot longer.

I have had an Aldi one for 2 years (given to me), never caused an issue, however, I always remove the battery when not in use and it always goes back into its box after use, as an aside, the silica packet is still there Very Happy I'm really not that anal, honest!! Very Happy

Yes, I always remove the battery. Eye sight is a problem for me also.

The El Cheap-o 8 inch digital vernier that I bought for $80 more than 10 years ago still does its job. It was cheap at that time and has done a fair amount of work. When it dies I will get another one, perhaps I will go before it ...

I have a mate who uses a lathe quite a bit and he tried those cheapo digital verniers out, (one only lasted a week). He has since gone back to using his good quality dial vernier and tells all of us not to touch one !
