My wife and I are booked on Eurostar (with the Triumph and Carlight) on Friday 3rd May, we're booked in at a very beautiful site near Interlaken, in Switzerland

where we'll stay before heading north to the classic caravan gathering in Germany.
Our return crossing isn't until 11.50am Tuesday 14th May - I would enjoy very much to head back in convoy with anyone else who has a classic car/caravan combo.

hello David.
A few years ago, a group of Royale owners attended the ECCR in Belgium, and convoyed across the country to the rally. We even allowed BrianM to tag on the end of the convoy, even though he only has an inferior Safari! 
It was good fun, and if we meet up at this year's rally ( which we surely will) I'll bore you with the story of our trek through Brussells!
Somewhere on this forum is a selection of Brian's pics taken on that trip, one of which graced the front page of the Royale club's magazine.
We won't be able to convoy back with you, though, as we leave GB on April 7th on our annual Euro-jaunt, and don't return until June 6th.
The ECCR is a magic event, and seems to get better each year.
PS, Brian and I can also bore you with our Swedish rally, too, but that might take a couple of days. |

My wife has never been on Eurostar and I wanted to make the crossing as quick as possible, so a discounted rate (albeit still expensive) through the Caravan Club won me over!
We'll arrive in Calais at 21:55hrs on the Friday evening. Saturday will be a full day of travel to get to Switzerland (via Germany) for the evening. It's a route I've done many times before with rowing boat trailers but not with the caravan.
I expect we'll have to make a road side stop for the Friday night, either in Calais or an hour or two down the road. Can anyone offer any advice in that respect?

Ignoring Emmerson's jibe about Safaris (Royales would never have existed without the presence of the Safari Caravan Company!) I seem to remember that it was me who suggested that Emmerson and his Royale crew came to the Belgium meeting in the first place, and that if they hadn't ignored my hooting and flashing from the rear of the convoy, the infamous Brussels trek would never have happened!! 
I got my ferry crossing for just £58 this year.
David - I take the ferry in the early hours and so also look to stop within one hour of Calais. I usually stop in the car park of one of the motorway service stations, which I know is not advised by the Caravan Club, but as campsites will not let you arrive after 20.00h I don't know what the alternative is. I have slept in an "Aire" among the lorries but did not feel as secure.
Whoever gets to the ECCR first needs to book 6-8 pitches for the GB contingent.

Brian, stop being picky! if you check on David's first post about the ECCR,some time ago,you'll find that I gave you credit for the introduction!
With regard to the Safari/Royale connection, I acknowledged that without Safari there would not have been any Royales, but what actually happened was that the designers of Royales left Safari, taking all their best ideas.
They then improved on them, and built Royales!!!!!!!!! 
David, if we do meet up in Germany, don't worry, Brian and I don't always fight like this; mostly he drinks my whisky! |

Laphroiag man myself, but only on special occasions at £33 a bottle!
Always malt for preference, but blended s do very nicely, as long as they come from north o'the border! |

Just got back from this event and to deal with important matters first - we all enjoyed a Laphroig in David's Carlight, my bottle of single malt was emptied during one of the evening events, and Emmerson's went in a late night session in my Safari with 9 of us crammed in there, English, Welsh, Dutch and Swedes.

Volvo and Safari covered 1,450 miles, in France Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany and apart from getting a bit hot in a 5 mile queue on the French Autoroute behaved perfectly.
But this was the highlight of the trip for me:
Yes a lap of the Nurburgring. Just look at that concentration!
Lap done in 17.5 minutes - not bad for a 43 year old that is also used for pulling a caravan
