My first train set was a clockwork one that went round in a circle. I then graduated on to an electic one and added extra track and sidings. I used to buy Airfix kits of stations and briges etc from Woolies and you could buy small tins of paint. I lost interest when I started work and started driving. If I remember I gave it to the lad next door. Its an expensive hobby now. Pete Waterman has some layout. I never had racing cars.

When I was a lad my father acquired a Hornby "O" gauge electric set for me. I think it had previously belonged to a Scout Troop. It consisted of the locomotive and tender, which although an Atlantic it was dressed up as 4472 Flying Scotsman. I had just enough track to make an oval and the transformer and a few carriages and trucks.

A very kind friend later gave me 3 very nice Pullman coaches. When I left the parental home it was stored under their floor but was unfortunately trampled on by a plumber installing central heating.

I retrieved when clearing my parents' house and still have it. I must get around to finding some driving wheels which were the only parts to suffer from the plumber's boots.

The photo isn't mine but is the same model, in similar condition and the same type of Pullman coach.

Peter

I'm currently working on this O gauge layout.
Another 5 feet will be added soon to make it 20' long.

I have an absolute insane amount of scalextric that I can't bear to part with (its only worth pennies anyway) I am also a long time collector of Marklin 'Z' gauge ( the very tiny 1:220 scale) Again I have an insane amount. Always promised myself I would hold off till I retire and then build a layout.

I had a Hornby "Double O" set in the 1960s - the one with a power rail in the middle.
The locomotives were Stanier Duchess of Sutherland in BR colours, a ex LNER 0-6-2 tank, an ex GWR Diesel Hydraulic and a BR "Brush". The set was bought second hand from a neighbour and consisted of a double oval connected track , two sidings and a semaphore signal!

I played with it for hours and hours and kept it, I'm not ashamed to say until I went to university when it disappeared during one term time to another lucky lad!

I never had a Scaletrix but a Meccano racing car track, with a chicane and three cars. One red and one blue 1960s Ferraris and a red Mercedes open topped sports car - the fastest of all of them.
I still have it today because I gave my parents a row for selling the train set at the time so I hid it in the cellar.
It's a pity the original box didn't survive.
