Yes good wee car for a runabout. The 1100 is as good as anything although it depends what year of car you are after. XR2 would be nice though. Cool

I wouldn't bother. Had one once, awful car, glad to sell it on to some other mug - it's put me off Fords for life.

What era are you looking at?

We has one briefly (Mk3 I think), cheap as chips - but not as tasty Smile

There's a lady of advancing years we sometimes see at the supermarket in a B reg "Ghia", car looks in good nick for its age.

There's an H reg 2 door 1.0 Bonus just been driven into Kirbys Car Breakers in Rochford, Essex. No PAS, manual choke, carb, four speed gearbox etc. Needs a good T-cut but looks quite sound with no obvious rust. I think these early MK3's are my favourite Fiestas, the MK3 I had was a later one with a cat and it didn't have the character of the early ones.

Its worth checking the salvage auction sites for cheap runabouts; small cars over 5 years old with nothing more than a scratch will be a cat D write off, I've seen them go for less than a couple of hundred quid. Some aren't even damaged as they are stolen recovered.

And that is the main drawback with most Fiestas from 1989 - 2002 especially the small engined versions.

The steering is unacceptably heavy if the car is meant for a lady.
My aunt owned a 1992 1.1 and I thought that the heavy steering was the car's main drawback.

I had a 79 mk1 and my mum had a mk 2. I thought the steering was ok. my mum didn't say anything about the steering being heavy either . the only downfall was they are fwd .well my mums was. I converted mine to rwd using mk2 escort running gear .if their was a car I regret selling that was it . it was 1700 cc twin 40's ,kent cam .lovely Cool

Hi W...R...
How did you get the drive turned 90 degrees, or did you manage to turn the engine to fore and aft?
It's rather a short engine bay for that isn't it?

you have to cut the bulkhead and get the engine and box in the right place .then you have to get the escort crossmember lined up to mount all the mk 2 suspension and steering off. then make another tunnel , shorten propshaft .4 bar linkage to locate rear axle usng escort kit. not a five minute job. but ford should have built it from the factory . I got the idea from a converted mk3 escort rally car my mates dad used to drive in the 80's he then went on to build a mk4 after he rolled the mk3.my mate gwynn evans rallys a mk6 rwd escort now with a 2.5 pinto motor running gsxr bike carbs , he's also got an rs 2000 mk1 escort in storage for his son when he gets older. lucky boy .. Cool
