Hi Martin

There were a couple of types fitted; early ones had Lucas R35, 6.5" diameter lens, later ( I suspect series 11) had Lucas L131 headlamps. 2 types of lens were availble; diffusa and fluted, everyone seems to prefer the fluted lens; they do look better,I dont know if the lighting is any better!.

Both lamps and rims were painted black.

Originally there was a mechanical dipping system, Lucas did offer a upgrade (lens reflector and with prefocused dual filliment bulb). Many owners have fitted motor bike bulbs and reflectors, retaining the original lens's.

Below is my series 1 tourer, the lamp on the RHS (of the pic) has an original lens (5/8" flutes), the LHS has an aftermarket lens, and the rim is chrome, so the whole lamp may be non original .

Thank goodness for that. It seems that I have a gentle case of "patina" on my 1937 Morris 8 4-door.

And here was I, thinking it was corrosion Confused

Its a real art making the patina look original Smile Wink

Martin, the lamps come up on eBay quite often, its the original glass that are not so common, or if you are really stuck go for something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230635826906?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 not original but if its the difference between getting a car on the road ......
