|
|
Folks, my pal has a 1967 Morris LDM30W van, the engine has suddenly expired and fears it has siezed. It is very likely that a replacement engine will be required.
Any local contacts in the vicinity of Diss/Stowmarket/Ipswich/ Bury St Edmunds areas who would be able to repair the engine urgently. |

Would your friend not consider unseizing and repairing his existing engine?

I would strip it down. Maybe its dropped a valve. We had LD vans in the Post Office and never had any serious engine problems. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

| Don't forget that even if all goes to plan stripping, possibly machining and rebuilding an engine takes time, which could be of the essence. |

Looks like the engine is beyond sensible repair apparently. I have not seen it myself but they say a REPLACEMENT ENGINEis sought.
So a 2.2lt engine from a Austin A70 or Gypsy. Leads please. |

| I think if you fit a much more powerful engine the next problem will be the rear axle. |

The 2.2 was fitted to the Gypsy, the FGK30/S200, some FX3 and 4's amongst other vehicles as well as the LD range so I would imagine that there are some still around. One of the best power units used by BMC at that time, I must have rebuilt dozens of them over the years both in petrol and diesel form.
