I used to have a Corsa with a Redtop fitted. It went like stink. It used to be a 1.1. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Mine was scrapped in 1964 on account of a cracked block. When rescued from the scrap yard it received an engine a couple of years older than the car.

| My supposed 1098 Minor runs around with a 948 engine. Much more nippy than the original. it was supposed to be a temporary measure but I like it so much I never did get around to replacing it with another 1098 (Flywheel had to be changed to allow use of the ridged 1098 gearbox) |

A few of mine have had transplants over the years.
My '57 Chevy wagon originally had an in-line 6 and now has a Chevy 350 V8 from a '93 Chevy pickup. |

What's a redtop? I've heard of them, but...??

rick, its the name for vauxhall's C20XE engine its a 2 litre 4 cylinder with a red cam cover, hence...'red top'
they are a very common engine modification for vauxhall corsas as they're a simple fit.
hope that helps _________________ "people with money buy a Rolls Royce, people with taste buy an Alvis". |

Back in the mid 70s I shoe-horned a Ford 1500 GT from a Corsair into a mk1 Midget. At the same time we fitted a rally tuned 2.5 straight six Triumph engine into a Stag belonging to my brother.
The Seven Special in my avatar is fitted with a Reliant engine.

I currently have a Sprite with a pre-crossflow Ford "L" block in it. Modified back in the early 70's. Its quite a nippy little thing!

I have re-engined my 1962 Series 2a Land Rover with a 200tdi from an early Discovery and it is now a pleasure (a relative term for a Series Land Rover) to drive.
I also have a 1954 Series 1, awaiting restoration, which has a BMC 1500 cc petrol engine fitted at some time in it's past. It was a popular conversion after the 1973/74 fuel crisis, I believe, but I bet it won't pull the skin off a rice pudding. I've not driven it yet.
A friend who has recently passed away once put a Riley One Point Five engine into a Hillman Imp to enter an open class for rallying in the early 1970s! Yes, that's right - engine in the front with gearbox, propshaft and rear wheel drive. It went like the wind so he told me. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

| I had a series 2a LandRover in 1981, it had a Perkins 4203 with Rover P5 diffs, it would pull a house down. You also knew when you met a fellow Perkins convert by the way both your bodies shook in time with a Perkins on tickover! (or one of you had a muscular affliction) |
