I had to smile when he tried to stop the flywheel with his hand. Maybe the MkII had a brake |

The connection to the engine didn't appear to have the usual "kick it out" when the engine revs either.

That seems like a lot of gadget to simply start the engine. I must admit that I have never started a Traction Avant, but have had many cars, over many years, that would be commenced manually- sometimes because that was the only way, and sometimes because of flat, or near-flat batteries.
A properly tuned petrol engine should start with only about a half-turn on the handle. From cold, with the ignition off, and petrol on, pull the choke, and give a couple of half-turns of the engine to prime the cylinders. Switch on and another half turn should have it running. This applies to any engine that can be brought through its compression stroke by use of the handle. I have started quite sizeable truck engines like this as well as cars.
The idea of spinning the starter handle round and round, as sometimes seen in films, is fraught with danger an, to me at least, indicates a poorly tuned/adjusted engine.
As for an inertia start, maybe useful for a diesel, but far from needed elsewhere. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Totally agree.

A French car starter and air raid warning siren combination? I don't think it'll catch on in Blighty |

Crikey... mon dieu! Talk about over-engineered or too much time on their hands. Mine will usually start on the handle after a couple of turns...but the push button starter is far easier!

I was going to say, if I start my car with the handle, it starts a lot quicker than it seems to with this gadget........but didn't want to sound stupid and so didn't post |
